hello to those that have been a patient or knows anyone who has

i am just wondering about the doses used in some of Dr J's protocols

for instance when he is in the early phases of lyme treatment and recommends things like doxy and another abx for lyme - taken i think for a few days a month followed by a couple of days of tinidazole

he talks about taking the doxy and other drug only mon / weds / Fri for weeks 1 and 2

then i think on the 2nd week - adding tinidazole on Thursday and Friday ( to kill the encysted forms that doxy tends to produce)

questions
1 - what dose of doxy is he using on the monday / wednesday / friday routine
2 - what dose of tinidazole does he recommend for the Thursday and Friday

My experience:

1) he prescribed mino instead of doxy - 100 mg twice day
(but it’s a pulsed protocol )

2) He prefers Rifabutin over Rifampin. 150 mg twice daily

3) He also prescribes a third abx. Ceftin 1000 twice daily

4) Tinidazole: 500 mg twice a day on Thurs and Friday

I’ll have to look for my protocols from years back.

I believe it was Mon/Wed/Fri
Week one (with dapsone and daraprim

I will look for my paperwork and post again… maybe a search on here will bring it up.

He used the same protocols for me about 9 til 7 years ago. Actually I learned a lot from him…well worth the trips and calls.

It started 3 weeks on/one off. Next is 2 weeks on/2 off. Then one on/three off until your immune system is ready to be off full time.

It has been a while but I think it was Doxy 200mg BID on MWF with Rifabutin 150mg BID on MWF. On the third week, u add the Flagyl 500mg(?) BID for Thurs and Friday.

We switched to Ceftin/Mino/Rifabutin and then Cefdinir/Mino then Ceftin/Doxy…always MWF with Flagyl or Tinidazole added for the last two days before your time off the meds. Even if u are inly doing one week of medication, u add the Flagyl for the last two days.

from what i have seen of his talks and presentations - i think he is a bit of a unique individual in terms of how he thinks and it can make him a little difficult to follow
- but i do think he is on the right track with his ideas about Lyme etc

thank you for adding your experience

i have to admit Flagyl scares me a bit as i have never taken it and it has a reputation of being a bit of a hard drug in terms of side effects
i have tinidazole instead - which i think is possibly a little easier to tolerate - but v similar

can i ask - how did you get on with them on the 2 days you took them?

Flagyl made me sick and caused high blood pressure. I didn't want to try tindamax after that.

Garzie, prior to Dr J’s protocols, I had a bit of neuropathy in my R fingers and foot, from using Flagyl for three weeks straight. It never completely resolved. I would get an uptick in my neuropathy on the second day, so I tried Tinidazole, which gave me less of the neuropathy but still a bit.

Prior to taking it for too long, I never had a problem taking it for several days at a time.

Garzie - Flagyl caused a lot of problems for me years ago. Severe migraines, foot pain, depression. This was within a couple of days.

Back then, though, I probably used the amount prescribed, rather than start low doses. Not telling you anything you haven’t already seen, but just another experience.
