Alka-Seltzer Gold shortage and how to remedy it

Lately it has been almost impossible to get it, pretty much every source is out of stock, bummer since it's pretty good at making strong herxes more bearable, so i checked the ingredients for it and apparently it only has two active ingredients: potassium 135 mg and sodium 309 mg then it says in water contains principally the antacids sodium citrate and potassium citrate, that part is a bit confusing does it turn into citrate when mixed with water or was it citrate in the first place?

Assuming that it was citrate in the first place then you could buy some very inexpensive sodium citrate and potassium citrate weigh and combine them at the right ratio and mix that with water to get the same effect.

Now im not a chemist by any means but it seems that would work, if anyone can confirm or object to bring some clearance that would be great.

acc to google - ingredients list is as follows

In Each Tablet: Active Ingredients: Anhydrous Citric Acid (1000 mg), Antacid; Potassium Bicarbonate (344 mg), Antacid; Sodium Bicarbonate (Heat-Treated) (1050 mg), Antacid. Inactive Ingredients: Magnesium Stearate, Mannitol.

the anhydrous citric acid will react with the potassium and sodium bicarbonate to from sodium citrate and potassium citrate - and carbon dioxide gas ( hence the bubbles) some of which will dissolve in the water - with perhaps some citric acid left over - or some bicarbonate left over ( depends on the exact ratios )

the magnesium stearate is a bulking agent to make the process of making tablets easier - not needed
the mannitol is i think a sugar-alcohol - used as a sweetener

simplest approach would be to buy potassium and sodium bicarbonate and citric acid ( all food grade ) and mix in the proportions above

dried, heat treated, or anhydrous forms are used to ensure it flows in the tablet making machine - and to stop the reaction taking place from moisture in the crystals before its in the water

you should be OK if you don't mix huge quantities and keep it in an air tight container

I did read it wrong and got the contents in potassium and sodium instead of the actual list of active ingredients, so slightly less straight forward but still pretty much doable, will most likely do that if they dont restock at some point, thanks much for the clarification.

Yeah tell me about it, I ordered some Alka Seltzer Gold on Amazon and it never came, or it was delayed for weeks, when I needed it very badly that weekend! I had to cancel the order and make my own (minus the potassium)...

Just fresh squeezed lemon (1) and baking soda (tsp) will give you a very similar fizzy drink, that could settle your stomach and more hopefully.
