Need Help understanding my sons iGenex Lab test

Hello to all of you wonderful members who have brought me so much insight and help. I have a question that you may have feedback on. My LLMD that I go to for myself, tested my son and told me he has lyme and needs to be treated. I have heard mixed reviews about him and that is why I now have doubt.... I just asked for the labs and this is what I see.

IGM Negative (band 23 with 2++).

Positive (band 23, 31 with 1+)

My question is: igenex states IGM is negative so does that mean they are saying he currently does not have it? but the IGG shows positive which means he did have it?
Do some doctors consider 1 band positive lyme? that is why he wants to treat him?

Depends. igG positive igM negative can indicate lyme specially If he has If very Long.

F.e. i have late Stage lyme (2 years of missdiagnosis) and my bloodwork was igG positive / igM negative.

So yes It can mean the lyme is still active. Depends on how Long He Had It.

Band 23 IgM was positive with the two ++

Band 23 is specific to Lyme.

This test result is “enough” to back up a clinical diagnosis of Lyme (history and symptoms)

Edit: yeah the double positive would also be more of a indicator, allthough I am quite new so Girlie will know better .

i think Girlie has the right approach

any bands raise the index of suspicion - so taken with a history and symptoms pattern - could be part of a clinical diagnosis

Ruly I want to add that chronic lyme also can be antibody negative. I learned today that it is suspected that through immune suppression borrelia bacteria can supress antibody production if you have it long enough.

I looked into some clinical study today that indicated this. so yeah. that can explain why some people have lyme even tho they never tested for antibodies. In this theory they used to have antibodies but the borrelia successfully surpressed the immune response so the antibody prodcution stopped.

yep, studies confirming that borrelia infect and disrupt the germinal centres of the lymph nodes - which is where things found by the innate immune system are brought to teach the learning part of the immune system what to make antibodies to - and is one mechanism by which antibody production can be interrupted

there are others - such as immune dysregulating effects of substances made by the bacteria and its biofilms once they are established in the body.

Very interesting so they still great for it since that is positive?

If this theory is true it would state that a antibody positive lyme is less severe than a antibody negative lyme because of the immune surpressing factor.

But this was no way confirmed by the study I have looked up it is just what my logic tells me after reading it. So I would be optimistic and stay that your son is on the better side of treatment.

Amazing how a bit of a more positive spin make me feel better haha. We are sitting for him to start his first year of college and then in May when he’s on break to treat the Lyme/Bartonella so this would be a good thing at least.

Understandable but from my (in no way professional !) point of view I would rather treat him sooner than later...
As far as I know the longer you wait the more complicated it can get - Moderation can correct me If I am wrong.

But from a social point of view I can totally understand that you want to wait till his break. Just maybe be careful and look into his symptoms - if it worsens faster or anything changes quicker, I would go for treatment sooner...
