My neighbors have cats and the cats go outside, catch mice and get fleas and ticks. After a few years, the cats end up slowly getting sick. It is sad to see.
I did have a cat many years ago and the cat did get fleas which I probably got bartonella from, but it was a more urban area and there was not so much disease. That cat was mostly healthy and had a normal lifespan.
Now in the more wooded areas the ticks have gotten real bad and there is so much disease. The cats only live for five to ten years.
The cats get rashes and arthritis and granulomas and their hair falls out. The vets give them steroids and some abx and it kinda helps for a while, but eventually the cats get lethargic and die.
My cat hasnāt had any fleas - heās an indoor cat except when we go out in our fenced back yard a few times a week and heās on a leash.
I do checks - and heās never had fleas yet.
I used to have indoor/outdoor cats and they always had fleas
Never found a tick but I wasnāt looking years ago because Lyme disease something I really knew anything about
