For the past year, I've been dealing with an unusual issue with my hands. Initially, I noticed my fingertips becoming wrinkly, almost as if I had been in water for too long. Over time, this progressed to my hands turning red and blotchy. The situation escalated further when my hands began swelling and became sensitive. Since starting antibiotics, the swelling and sensitivity persist, and now I've noticed an added symptom of itching. Has anyone else encountered similar experiences or symptoms?

Hi Cael,
I sure don't want to cause more concern, but I did want to share a thought of what it *might* be. My hands did that when I developed a form of psoriasis. The itching was so very intense! I now control my psoriasis with a specific daily probiotic though, so my hands stay clear.

Hopefully you don't have psoriasis, but it's a lead to check out maybe.

I have heard of the wrinkly and red hands over the years. Not sure about the itching. Itching could be a sign of allergic reaction to something. You could have developed a contact allergy to some substance or a drug you might be taking. Do you wear any type of gloves? Do you get any kind of chemical or substance on your hands? Do you have redness, itching, or swelling anywhere else on your body? Have you mentioned this to your doctor?

The liver is a concerning one, as well as diabetes. When was the last time you had routine bloodwork and urinalysis? How were your liver labs - AST, ALT, bilirubin, (I forgot the other one)? Was urinalysis normal? Glucose? Insulin? A1C?

As far as the splotchiness, bartonella and Babesia both have effects on blood, blood vessels. Do you have (or suspect) either of those infections?

I'm also wondering about inflammation due to the skin reacting to something - dish soap, hand soap, gloves, lotion, manicure chemicals, cleaning chemicals, etc. Even entirely natural substances can cause reactions based on individual sensitivities, and sometimes all it takes is finding the trigger. I hope it ends up being something simple that resolves for you!

I've undergone more than 100 blood tests, and that might be an underestimate. Thus far, every blood test, including a full panel conducted twice at the ER earlier this year, has shown completely normal results. Every scan and test I've had has also indicated normal findings. Despite experiencing bladder issues as one of my main symptoms, even those tests have returned normal results. Since January, when I began experiencing dizziness, headaches, eye floaters, and weakness simultaneously, my hands have been problematic. Although the antibiotics for Lyme disease have led to occasional swelling in my hands, the redness and pain persist consistently.

Bladder and eye symptoms are common with Bartonella. You mentioned antibiotics. Do you have an LLMD who is treating you for Lyme and coinfections?

Bartonella affects the blood vessels. DrM, the Bartonella specialist, uses proteolytic enzymes to break up fibrin deposits. Those enzymes are serrapeptase, nattokinase, and lumbrokinase in order from weakest to strongest.

They each have a little different mechanism of action and some affect the thinning of the blood and are not suitable for people who take blood thinners. People’s responses to these enzymes have been all over the place from no noticeable reactions to herxheimers to massive relief of symptoms. I believe Dr. M and some others use the enzymes along with abx long term during treatment.

My hands have been “ravaged” since March of 2021. I have had the red blotches that come and go, fingers swelling, itching (unbearable at times), lesions and cuts (because of Lyme/morgellons & most likely Bart.)

I have been to my dermatologist and she took a biopsy and it came back as a diagnosis of eczema. This is all before I realized that I had Lyme/morgellons & other issues.

I stopped going to her and did my own research and with God guiding me, I have gotten it somewhat under control.

I have been taking an herbal protocol for the most part. Crytolepis, Skullcap, Japanese Knotweed, Allicidin…With recent pulses of Ivermectin (7 days on 7 off). So with this protocol for me anyway has been very helpful in stopping the redness, swelling & itching.

Sometimes I would wake up in the middle of the night with itchy hands…it was so bad. I would fill up the sink with warm water, add some hydrogen peroxide and soak them for about 5 minutes (I wanted to get back to sleep)…then I would put something soothing on them like vaseline.
