I'm so sorry that you are dealing with this, Sunfun! I know it's exhausting and frustrating!
I have tried two SSRIs. One I was allergic to, and the other helped a little (maybe 20% less anxious on Lexapro) but had terrible side effects for me and didn't help the symptom I was talking it to manage (migraines). Withdrawal was bad.
I tried clonazepam, which made me feel totally dead inside, even at 1/4 pill of the lowest pharmaceutical dose. It also didn't affect any symptoms except for anxiety.
The things that did help me with anxiety and systemic hyper-reactivity: therapy (chiefly the IFS approach), DNRS limbic system retraining, ashwagandha, chamomile, lemon balm, essential oils (lavender, peppermint, frankincense), tapping (EFT), acupressure points, acupuncture, craniosacral therapy, biodynamic craniosacral therapy, guided meditation, guided visualizations, 54321 sensory technique, breath exercises, vagus nerve toning exercises, diet changes (no sugar, no caffeine, no processed food), curcumin, quercetin, low-histamine diet, yoga, walks (exercise in general, when post-exertional malaise isn't an issue), hikes, earthing, time in the sun, full-spectrum light lamps, CBD, B vitamins, affirmations, safeguarding sleep, Curable chronic illness app, electronics breaks, addressing gut dysbiosis (since neurotransmitters are made in the gut), creative pursuits, better boundaries, time near negative ions (beaches, waterfalls, pine forests, dams).
Things I didn't try or didn't find helpful, but which do help others: EMDR, PEMF, ASMR, holy basil, bacopa, eleuthero, rhodiola, magnesium threonate, L-theanine, SAMe, 5HTP, journaling, massage, earthing mats, music, playing an instrument, pets, cold showers (Wim Hof), Rescue products, cannabis, psilocybin, acupuncture mats, various types of therapy (CBT, DBT, somatic, etc.), TRE (tension release exercises), tai chi, qi gong, Headspace or Calm apps, turning off wifi at night, Wellbutrin, assessment and OT for any neurodivergence, Strattera, GAPS diet, parasite and/or candida cleanse.
There are lots of good nervous system reset videos online for other ideas.
I was also hypersensitive to stimuli, anything ingested or inhaled, etc. Multiple chemical sensitivities and easily overstimulated, and completely disabled. I think we have talked before about
how the book Toxic by Neil Nathan was so helpful for me, since it's all about
hyper-reactive patients. And also about
DNRS, which helped me reprogram the parts of my limbic system that were perpetuating those sensitivities. I'm really sorry to hear that those must not have ben helpful for you!
Are you pretty sure that active infections aren't part of the picture anymore?
As for the mold in the hospital, I would think that not all mold-sensitive or mold-toxic people react to all molds, so not reacting in one circumstance probably isn't a good test, unfortunately. It's hard to say if the citrinin levels in your tests a while back are part of the problem. Have you done any mold treatment in the interim - getting rid of contaminated belongings when you moved, living someplace less likely to be contaminated (no leaks, no finished basements, no carpet, etc.), air purifiers that filter down to 0.1 microns (the size of mycotoxins), binders, glutathione, nasal sprays? Did your symptoms worsen after your move?
Hang in there! I absolutely am sending groovy, resilient vibes. You will find something that helps eventually. You will.
