One Drop of Supplement Blend Causing Problems?

we have had a number of members over the years who have reported strong reactions to even a single drop of herb tinctures

its typically those who are already sensitive to many things

we don't know the exact mechanism this super sensitivity is caused by - but its very likely its instigated by some part of the immune system. as the doses of active chemicals in one drop of a tincture are so low they are unlikely to have any direct systemic antimicrobial effect.
or
perhaps there is some very small amount of antimicrobial effect in the mouth or gut that is enough to trigger some kind of immune reaction.
its very hard to say - but it does seem to be reported often enough that its a real thing.

of course it could be just a coincidence - part of the day to day ups and downs that occur with this disease - to figure that out all you can really do is wait for things to settle and do the trail again - keeping everything else stable to avoid confounding issues.

however, in people who are sensitive i would strongly suggest trying only one herb at a time as, otherwise you will not be able to tell which herb does what - and if done one at a time you may find its just one of the three that drives the issue and the others are tolerable -

for what its worth - my reactions to antimicrobial herbs tend to be stronger than those to treating with pharma abx drugs.

the only explanation i have come up with is that perhaps there is a degree of built in selection bias in the abx creation pipeline - in that everything is tested on animals first - usually mice to begin with - and it would be quite understandable if, after getting the experimental abx the mice lay down or looked sick for a day after the 1st dose - then that drug might be more likely to get crossed off the list as unsuitable to try in humans. in this way those abx with lower tenancy to create herx like reactions might bubble to the top of the drug pipeline.

Garzie - I have seen posts from you on numerous occasions where you mention how sensitive you have been to a treatment and the need to start slow. That's why I did one drop. As you mentioned, I didn't think one drop would have enough impact to cause a reaction, if that is what it really is.

Will take a couple of more days to then try again to see what happens. It also could cause a ramp up in Sjogrens fatigue, but surprised if one drop would. But,,,,

loski - Tried A-Bart once and had a really bad reaction to it. Your story doesn't surprise me, though I had not seen where people put it on bottoms of feet. New lesson learned.

Rainy- I did start back because there were parts of my EMG that were a little improved. Also, my body doesn’t hurt as much after taking it.

It’s not curing neuropathy, but seems to be keeping it from getting worse.

That may be playing a part in fatigue. I’ll know next month if I’m dead tired after taking it. Felt better today after not taking herb, but somehow need to treat.

Do you mean from when I first started 15 months ago or after recent doses?

I would have to say it was getting worse, but it isn't as clear cut as it sounds. There were a couple of periods where I took 6-7 week breaks because of rash issues that, now, don't seem to be related to IVIG. So lack of consistency plays a part in figuring it all out.

My doctor said she could see on the nerve testing done a couple of months ago some of the tests were better. Also, during this last "break" from IVIG, I developed muscle pain, which seems to have gotten better in last day or so. It could be the IVIG is lowering inflammation.

You're not prying. Your concern and help is appreciated. You find so many good studies that IO have no idea how you found them. Is there something in particular that concerns you about the IVIG?

Yesterday I took an artemisinin capsule, opened it, tapped a sprinkle of the powder into a mug of water, stirred it with a q tip, rubbed the q tip on my skin, then herxed, and I'm wondering if I'm relapsing extra today because of it.

So sadly, yes, it is possible to be super sensitive.

As some may still remember, I used an unusual protocol for my healing - they were mostly herbal teas.

Herbals teas are most often considered tonics, not exactly treatments. They are the most gentle form of herbal treatments.

When I first started my teas, I could use only one, and had to dilute it down to 1/3 of a dose. I actually didn't hold out much hope it would work at such a low dose! But, work, it did. I was able to very slowly move my dosages up and then began to add in more treatments.

1 year later, I was healed from Lyme and Bartonella, then we went after my other infections.

While some of us are so highly compromised that this is a familiar story, others can move through treatments much more easily.

Let's not forget that the body has a very finite amount of room to store toxins. Once our "storage rooms" are full, even the smallest doses can trigger a herx.
