Hello,

I was wondering if anyone here has been able to successfully acquire disability in Massachusetts. I have been reading the sleepygirl website. It is incredibly informative, but also a bit overwhelming.

One of my take-aways is that you would need to apply for chronic fatigue syndrome, rather than Lyme Disease, as LD is not recognized by doctors or the disability department.

I applied for disability many years ago, maybe back in 2015, and I was denied. My LLMD told me that I would initially be denied and I should keep applying, but I stopped applying because I had a particularly rude case worker who told me - you're not sick. You can work. I should have continued to apply for disability, but I stopped and went back to work. Almost a decade later, I am much more sick, and I can no longer work.

In any case, I was just curious if anyone has been able to successfully navigate the process of disability in Massachusetts. I think I'm going to need to attempt to do this again, and I would be very grateful for any tips on how to proceed.

I also kind of gave up on doctors many years ago. I came to the conclusion that there was really not much they could do to cure lyme disease, so I stopped going. However, this might be bad for my disability case because I don't have the long paper trail that I need to apply. I probably need a strategy of tests and doctors that I should see in order to help my case. I know traditional PCP doctors are not going to recognize lyme disease. I am forced to have a PCP doctor with my insurance, so maybe I start discussing chronic fatigue syndrome with them so I can get it on record? Not sure.

Currently on my third appeal in PA.

Got a neurologist and NP to back a fibromyalgia diagnosis. Which I’m still working on expanding on.

It’s difficult.

Don’t give up!
I am one example that you can get over Lyme disease
Call it cured or remission … or whatever….but I am living life again.

Good to know. Do you have to be unemployed while you're applying for disability? That was my understanding. That makes it much more difficult to get by I would imagine.

I have been reading the sleepygirl website. It is very informative, but it kind of makes your head spin because it just goes around in circles. This all seems like a very complicated procedure. I need some sort of strategy to approach this in an organized way.

I know people in Mass who get on it very easily. I guess certain ailments they don't question. I guess you need the right ailment and the right doctor who is mainstream who will back you up.
