Does IGg weak mean positive?
Does IGg positive mean positive ?
Does this mean active or not active. ?
Also I started low methylene blue that was going well, then I had a stress attack, where my neck tensed right up and there was a hot sugre in my spine. Within a few days lower back and hips seazed up, and my hip joints are killing me. Did I stir things up for this reaction?
Also how did you guys get that symptom bio at the bottom of your posts?
i am assuming you are asking what do serologic tests for bartonella mean if they are positive
the issue is these are far from perfect tests
primarily the sensitivity is very poor - standard ELISA antibody tests are probably only around 25% sensitive - so around 75% people who are infected will test negative
then there is the issue of persistent antibodies after infection or after the immune system has controlled the infection - which in some cases can persisted for years - so even a positive with this method is not black and white
on balance - given the v low sensitivity - any positive result raises the suspicion of active infection significantly
and if symptoms and exposure and response to treatments also match - then that raises the index of suspicion further and you get to the point where you have a fair idea of what is going on
this is as good as it gets with serologic testing - and why we need better technologies that can give MUCH higher sensitivity and specificity
serology is only still used because its cheap - and doctors are labouring under the false belief that its good enough - it can be good enough for some simple acute infections - but is not reliable for chronic infections ( its not used at all for tuberculosis for instance - another chronic bacterial infection - and has been with drawn for bartonella in the UK NHS in the last 12months) - this is what the research says - but unfortunately its likely to be another 10 to 20 years before this is generally accepted.
i hope its of some help
