Pop-up ads like crazy here now?..was not like that before

I understand that this place makes money off of ads that’s why it exists. For a while, it didn’t even have ads in the sidebar. Then they appeared there, which is actually a good thing because they are not annoying on the side. But now instead of the ads on the side, I’m getting a lot of pop-up ads which my blocker is not catching on my phone. They typically take up the whole lower half of the page, including what I’m trying to read. And it’s multiple steps to get rid of them. They just don’t minimize or disappear when you hit the X for the first time.

Anyone else notice this the last three months?

I've been using the "uBlock Origin" browser extension on my Windows PC for years, so I don't see any ads. It even blocks video ads on YouTube. I can't recommend it enough.

Also, the "Unhook" browser extension makes YouTube even a bit more bearable, by being able to disable many things like recommended videos, comments, profile photos, live chats, fundraisers, merchandise, ticket sales, the video wall at the end of videos, video overlays, annotations, and more.

Both are free.

However, as far as I can tell, they are only for Windows platforms. So, if you ever reach your fill with ads on your phone, you could try installing these extensions on your Windows computer. Obviously, that's not as convenient, though.

Well, I don’t get these that much in my computer. What I posted about was on my phone. Safari browser for phones comes with its own ad blocker that is Apparently not as effective as it used to be

The App Store should have several other free ad blockers are available for Safari. There's AdBlock, Adblock Plus, and AdGuard, to name a few.

there are no popups on my phone - old iphone - google chrome browser - no additional ad blockers -

none on Windows PC either - but using Ublock origin - which seems to do a decent job

i still see the same old ads in the sidebar that have been on there for ages

No pop-ups on the current PC this morning either, just on my phone.

I know in the past, when/if Safari has any issues, they take forever to resolve it.

Ill look into some free ones in the App Store.

There appears to be a glitch in Adblock Plus, which comes with safari for Apple mobile products using ios17 versions.

I googled this issue, and its a thing for some apple mobile products using safari.

Tech at the phone store didnt know besides reloading everything and safari on the phone…lol, thats the lazy but time consuming approach…..and the last resort!

I have ideas before loading a different ad blocker, time will tell. Maybe just reload this one. That works on pc’s , phones arnt that different.

For anything that gets past uBlock Origin, you can try right-clicking on it, selecting "Block element," and in the resulting dialog box that opens, select either "Create" (to apply as-is) or "Pick" (to manually select the element to block). Then, repeat as needed, if any elements of the ad were missed.

I've had to do this a few times. Once successfully blocked, though, the ads didn't reappear.

Seems like I solved it.

Add block plus has an update that was not brought to my attention. I found it in the App Store. Why I was not notified does not make sense. This is not an Apple product. It’s from Adblock Plus for the Safari that I use on my Apple phone.

All I did was the update, I did not have to reload anything or all that other nonsense that the phone tech mentioned at the phone store.

I no longer get the annoying car Grocery store pop-up ads that take up half of my phone.

It’s now back to normal.

Thank you all for letting me know that the ads that I was getting, was not normal!!!

(I hope I did not jinx myself)!!!!
