yep - new to me also

i general i am a bit wary of the claims many of the genetic tests companies put out there

it promises a lot - but from what i have seem of different companies interpretations of the same results - the technology is not stable yet - and we have little or no way of verifying any of them.

other than say by our subjective assessments - which will always have a tendency to tell a story to ourselves around the results - something the human brain is normally very good at - and something that gets supercharged when there is high emotional salience and a strong need for answers.

we know that around 85% of chronic disease is not attributable to our genes - which begs the question - what do the results actually mean.

Thanks for taking the time to comment everyone.

I'm not looking at this as a "fix all". Have felt a bit roadblocked lately and exploring reasonably priced things that have resonated with me.

I will update this thread as a I make more sense of all this.

I never heard of that one either. So I googled it and I see The DNA test kit is discontinued however, you can still get the report.

So I’m guessing you had Your genes tested by them and reported by them?

I did 23andMe gene testing years ago, which there were several different companies offering the deciphering and report of the 23andme information.

This was pretty popular five years ago and I am one of the few who actually thought it was worth it.

it in my case, I do have some double copies of genes that explain some health issues I have.

We tend to forget, that not everything is caused by lyme. It is thought that major stress and health issues can trigger what I call red double copy genes into actually doing something versus just remaining dormant.

I have double copies of genes that correlate with three of my non-lyme health issues, one is an extremely rare disorder of one in 50,000 people, lucky me this actually helped me diagnose this rare blood Immune disorder along with other odd blood test results that regular doctors were clueless about.

This disorder is directly related with a specific gene. They have discovered accidentally that this gene can be reversed with cancer drugs. But as you have guesed they do not prescribe these cancer drug treatments just to cure the gene for the immune disorder because those alone are pretty rough on your body unless you’re already dying of cancer and really don’t have much to lose.

This could possibly lead them to a cure someday for Hypogammaglobuliminia. It goes by several names. I can’t even spell it lol.

So although some people may think gene testing is a total waste of time, I think the direct opposite for obvious reasons. Did it cure anything yet,? no, but it gave me answers when general medicine was absolutely clueless.

Astro - yeah I did testing through ancestry, export the raw data and upload to seeking health/strate gene. $40 for ancestry, $95 for the 3rd party report. Also discovered I have a half sister we didn’t know about but that’s not so relevant here 😂

It’s a 124 page report of the 7 areas they focus on. (Histamine, dopamine, seratonin, folate, SAM, Gultsthione, Biopterin)

At the very least I see this as being health supportive. If I even get a 10-15% improvement I think it’s well worth the cost. Perhaps long term health as well.

So far I’ve learned my MTHFR mutation exists with B2. So ive upped my b2 and folate.

I’m also sensing some diagnostic potential here. For example I have a double copy of a glucoronidation gene that suggests it should over perform - but my bili is usually high. Which suggests environmental factors. I keep circling around to pesticides in other areas as well from skimming this. Just early thoughts..

I’ve found some practitioners they “certify” for this report. I’m going to call two of them on Monday and see if I can setup a consult.

I went to a doctor that was getting into this gene stuff five years ago. It was a lot to decipher first, so she helped out but there’s nothing beneficial she could do of course and to top it off, dismissed the major gene that I found out that is a major issue for me.

Trying to counteract genes with supplements gave short time careers to Dr. Amy Lasko and Ben Lynch. I don’t follow them, so I don’t know if they actually got anywhere with this stuff besides promoting some books.

I’m guessing Phoenix rising is possibly the best place for gene questions.

124 pages info for the just those areas that you mentioned it’s a lot, wow. I’m guessing with that many pages they’re not just describing the issues the genes are common with, but possibly actually mentioning supplements to counteract them?

That almost sounds like something youd get from Ben Lynch.

I never got too deep into this stuff because it was just way too confusing.

Just knowing some of the facts, issues that you may face either now or in the future can actually be a lifesaver, though. It doesn’t take much. think of how many people just ignored signs of things that were actually a sign of something that can kill you if ignored. People die from that every day.

In my case, I already Evaded a possible stroke because of my Genetic knowledge. I drove myself to the hospital before the clot fully formed. I felt it and instantly knew what it was. That Is something that was previously unknown to my mother and it changed her life forever.

The unfortunate part of gene testing which some of the reasons some people do not do this,…is you might learn what might possibly determine the end of your existence. 😳
