i recall reading some studies showing that the extra cellular matrix, that bacteria including borrelia excrete to form biofilms, are themselves immuno-suppressive also

so taken together these findings seem to support Dr J's concept of chronic lyme disease - where microbes suppress and dysregulate the immune system of the patient to the point where they can no longer clear them and become progressively more ill
and his treatment approach - being to gradually chip away at the bacterial load so eventually the hosts immune system can recover and begin to do the job it was designed for and mop up the remaining bacteria - rendering the host recovered
