Monolaurin / Lauricidin experiences

just wandering what peoples experiences have been with this

the dosing information seems a little vague - and i seem to recall some people having very strong reactions to it

so before taking the dive - i thought i would ask for feedback from others

1, how much did you take
2, what kind of reaction did you have
3, were you taking it alone or with other antimicrobials
4, how sensitive are you normally - eg to herbs or antibiotics

i think you are sensitive to many things - right?

were you taking anything else at the time ?

I found monolaurin to be fatigue inducing. Never worked up. Never continued. But I’m not 100% if it was a herx. Similar to lysine.

Yeah I am sensitive and I was taking other things at the time. I was desperate to solve my mcas problems at that time and it didn't quickly solve them so I moved on to testing other things since biofilm busting is a painful arduous process has never ends for me

yep - its tricky - typically anything that causes die off reactions tends to increase MCAS symptoms making treatment difficult.

xylitol has been one of teh most powerful things i have taken for biofilms - when taken alongside abx and herbs the reactions were crazy strong

i am looking for more adjuncts to use alongside abx

Horowitz uses monolaurin as a biofilm agent in his protocols where the patient cannot tolerate essential oils

i was going well on oil of oregano - but started getting severe heart symptoms that landed me in ER - and they start again if i restart oil of oregano - so i was looking for alternatives to try that hopefully do not trigger the same

I forget the size. Two capsules though, one AM/PM. This was a couple years ago.

first for clarity - i don't think i was the oil of oregano specifically that was causing the heart issues - more that anything antimicrobial started to drive this symptom for me to some extent - and oil of oregano just seems to be one thing that triggers alot for me

dosing got a bit complicated - i will explain

i started on very low doses - but still felt the effects - it is rather potent

i started at 1 drop ( from a dropper bottle) AM and PM

the product i was using came with a COA and claimed to be 80+ % carvacrol

but i later found out by trying other brands that this was actually a diluted product and probably more like 20% carvacrol
this problem with labelling and adulteration is rife in the supplement industry and with oil of oregano in particular - i think because its so pungent in smell that unscrupulous companies can mix it 1:4 with a carrier oil like olive oil and it will still smell very strong

but as an example - when i later put 2 drops of real 90% carvacrol pure oil of oregano in my mouth - it burned it just like boiling water would - it took nearly a week to fully heal afterwards. that is how strong the real unadulterated product is.

anyway - not knowing its true strength - i worked up to 8 drops a day of the weaker product over the course of a few months
my best guess is that a single drop weighs around 20mg - and that it was around 20% carvacrol - so only 4mg of carvacrol per drop - 8 drops would be 32mg of carvacrol total - this is a low dose

most lyme docs would use 150 to 300mg of carvacrol alongside antibiotics

but i wasn't using it alone - i used used it alongside many lyme and bartonella herbs, methylene blue and bromelain

in that time i had bouts of herx signs when stepping up
mainly disturbed sleep, loud racing pulse at night and sleep disturbance

8 drops was effective for me at helping overall symptoms - and using this dose alongside all the herbs and methylene blue etc - i was making pretty good progress - but then the heart stuff kicked in and i had to stop.

i am still trying to work out if there is a way i can take it again - at a low enough dose to get some benefit without triggering heart symptoms - or maybe pulsing it once per 2 weeks or some such approach

if you can drink it like that i would guess its another diluted product - despite the label ( from my own experiences most product out there are )
the water doesn't dilute it as it sits on top and doesn't mix properly

this doesn't matter too much in terms of dosing - as you can only tolerate the dose you can tolerate - and 8 drops of a diluted product was still useful for me - but in terms of target dose you may just want to bear it in mind for later on

BTW - the best way to take it is to add the drops you wish to take to a spoonful of a carrier oil like extra virgin olive oil - and then take that - as the oil of o will dissolve in that carrier oil and this stops even the full strength stuff from burning the skin off your mouth!

yep that's the one i have - i liked the fact that its in granules - so you can titrate the dose easily
