Neem - tell me about it

All I know is it is in the A-Babs formular. The following was copied from A-Babs info I had archived.

Neem: This herb's anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal effects are well documented. There is evidence for its use in pneumonia, ulcers, gout, diabetes, hypertension, skin infection and wound healing. The essential fatty acid content in Neem is high.

I've never tried neem on its own. It's Para-gone from Woodland Essence that I'm using.

I started out a couple weeks with 5 drops and increased every 3 days or so until I got up to 22 drops. After the first few days, I added 5 drops artemesia. (This is all in conjuction with all the other herbs I regularly take.)

I seemed to tolerate all of it pretty well but could definitely tell it was hitting my head. I also noticed it bringing out bartonella symptoms, too - foot pain, ankle stiffness, body pain, and finally rage. The rage happened on a Wed morning. I decided to take a break starting the next day since I had a family wedding that Sat.

After that weekend, I started back on the Para-gone at 15 drops with no artemesia. It started hitting my head right away and harder than it did at 22 drops along with 5 extra drops of artemesia. It also brought the bartonella symptoms out again even worse than before.

I dropped the Paragone dose down to 10 drops yesterday and skipped it altogether this morning. Still having some head pains and rage this morning.

I was taking the Paragone to see if it would expel some more ropeworm ir any other intestinal parasites I may have and the artemesia to see if I really do have babesia. I was not expecting a flare of bartonella symptoms to happen with it. That's why I wondered about biofilm - if maybe it was letting all the critters out of the cage.

So far, it's had no effect on my intestinal stuff. Bummer on that.

It sounds like the Paragone is extremely effective for you, which in the grand scheme is a good sign because it likely means this is a promising avenue to improve your health. But good to take breaks when herxing gets to be too much. Interesting that it is drawing out the bartonella symptoms. Some of these antimicrobials can have broad coverage, and maybe like you say there could be something going on with the biofilms.

I think we talked about this in another thread, but if you strongly suspect larger parasites stuff like ivermectin and albendazole may be worth trying at some point. Otherwise not a bad idea to keep pursuing the Paragone, so long as you can pace it to the level you can tolerate.

It's also possible that as you keep treating lyme/coinfections/occult pathogens, and generally reducing pathogen load your immune system will further kick in and start fighting the parasites more. But some lyme patients do find a lot of improvement when they take antiparasitics.

My gut issues have improved a lot as I've continued with treatments over time. My suspicion is that lyme/coinfections were suppressing my immune system and allowing opportunistic pathogens to plague my gut. Could also have been directly due to lyme/coinfections as well, but I did test positive for multiple shigella variants which I always thought was weird. Makes more sense now that I know how lyme and company often allow other opportunistic bugs to thrive.

Hi Walking by faith, how did you get on with neem over time?

My practitioner has recommended the Neem by supreme nutrition that gladioli66 mentioned above

yep - most herbal antimicrobials have some anti-biofilm activity also

the article on Oxford university press looks legitimate enough

the authors seem to be Indian researchers at a university in India - which is how a lot of herbal medcine research gets done - as far as i can see they don't have conflicts of interest - eg working for supplement manufacturers

i took it for some while and i had the feeling i was better, but its hard to tell, when you taking constantly 10 herbs.
But maybe i should start it again because of his antiparastie babesia effect....

I had only tried neem for toothpaste in the paste, I didn't realise it was used in other ways so now I'm excited to try it! thanks again

Sorry for the delayed response. I do recall later getting a bottle of neem leaf capsules. I used the bottle, but I don’t recall noticing any memorable effects from it. Just be sure you don’t take any neem oil internally. It’s toxic if ingested. It’s great topically on skin, but it does smell really bad. Neem leaves can be eaten and dried and made into capsules. I believe in India, it’s referred to as “the village pharmacy,” because of its broad medicinal usefulness.

doesnt rawls MD claim that neem has microbial activity? particular against chlamydia pneumonae if i am correct.

chl. pneumonae is also known for persisting quite stubbornly....

Interesting. I was both IgG and IgM positive for Chlamydia pneumonia for years. I never was sure if it played a role in my symptoms or was a blockage to improvement. Haven’t been tested in several years, but one of my last tests, the IgM went negative, I believe, and the IgG numbers dropped, after not budging for years.

I caught that, too, RainyCloud. I was impressed (and relieved) with the comparison to AmphB. It’s always good to know there are natural options to handling microbes.
