Hi, I'm new to this forum so I appreciate ant advice you may have to offer. Ihave symptoms of Lyme Disease for a number of years and recently did the test through Armin Labs.

My results are indicate a weak positive for Borrelia b. OSP-Mix and positive for Borrelia burgdorferi LFA-1. My CD57 Levels are also very low (36).
I'm wondering if it is possible that I may have Lyme's disease?

 sensu stricto, Borrelia afzelii, Borrelia garinii + OspC
 native + DbpA recombinant.
 Borrelia-burgdorferi LFA-1 (Lymphocyte Function Antigen 1)
 Own body protein + Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto
 (shared epitope). LFA1 can be associated with autoimmune
 diseases: collagenosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis,
 vasculitis. If positive or borderline positive look at:
 ANA, CCP-antibodies, ANCA.

 pathogen-specific IgG and IgM antibodies and contains an
 antigen for persisted forms (round bodies) of Borrelia
 burgdorferi.

 EliSpots/i-Spots tests and the CD57+ NK cell test that you
 may have done

Those test results are “enough” to support a Lyme disease diagnosis.

Do you have a a Lyme literate dr to treat you?

Thank you. I wasn’t sure as there was conflicting results in my samples.
I haven’t got a Lyme literate doctor unfortunately. I appreciate any help you may have to offer.

Hi Colin

i am in Europe also

unfortunately its quite common to have a mixed set of positive and negative results when testing for lyme
as at the current time there are known problems with the sensitivity and specificity of all available tests - even when tested at the best labs.

this is mainly because most tests do not detect the pathogen directly - but look for signs that the immune system is reacting to the pathogen - which is not always the case
in fact in the case of lyme disease - the organism itself is known to interfere with the normal functioning of the hosts immune system - and can therefore result in negative test results - even when a person is indeed infected

testing via a number of different test technologies - ELISA, ELISpot etc as you have done is often the best approach - but as you have found can lead to mixed results

any positive test in the context of symptoms that match lyme disease should be investigated further - ideally by a LLMD who will typically diagnose based on symptoms, history, and perhaps reactions to treatment - rather than relying solely on test results

finding a LLMD in Europe can be tricky - different countries have different positions on lyme disease - some appear to deny its existence - others downplay it as extremely rare - only a few take it seriously.

in general you are correct

however there is one well respected infectious disease expert in Dublin who is very familiar with Lyme disease and its co-infections -

he is also a prominent member of ILADS ( an international group of doctors that treat lyme disease, publish papers, raise awareness etc ) and Invisible International - a patient advocacy and public education foundation focused on vector born illnesses like lyme disease

to my knowledge he is a well respected mainstream medical doctor who has no issues with medical board persecution - so i think it should be OK to post his name here

his name is Dr John Lambert

this is the only well known LLMD in Ireland that i know of - so probably the best place to start - if you can get to see him (i believe he has both private and state funded clinics)

GP's can be a barrier - as they are taught to disregard tests from private labs like Armin

i printed their laboratory approvals to show my doctor when i showed him my results
and explained they do not make any of the test they perform - the test kits they use are all made by recognised test kit manufacturers - so their lab just has to do them according to the manufacturers instructions -
and their approvals demonstrate they can do that.

he was ready to dismiss the result - but this gave him pause

One of the most experienced LLMD - Dr Jemsek went to Ireland to share his methods of treating Lyme and co-infections with Dr Lambert several years ago.
