Water- filter?

Can someone recommend a good water filter? Right now I just use the brita and where I am living now it works fine. However, we finally finished building a house up in northwestern nj and the water there is awful (i mean really awful).

first of all, all of the toilets have a bad blue ring (how do i get this out- the house has been being built over 3 years so the water sat this long in the toilets- long story- builder stole our money and filed bankruptcy, so we stopped building and then resumed last year and only now are finishing up) the water tastes pretty bad- it is city water, so not a well (been through bad water with that before too).

what is a good filter (a much better one than brita since i tried that there and it doesn't help at all).


Also, has anyone used prill beads for treating water?

alfers is right. reverse osmosis is the best. You can get a small unit that runs to your main faucet for drinking purposes or a water line that supplies a refrigerator. The filters can clog up fast if the water is really bad and you just replace the filters that usually screw into the unit.

I don't think i'd waste my time filtering the entire house.

Reverse osmosis is the ultimate. They do indeed come with two different type carbon block filters plus a few other high tech filter membrane canisters. Basically they are sold in 3-6 or more stage kits. Each stage is a different type of filter canister. Some of the new ones even come with a 6th stage which uses ultraviolet light to further purify.

Razzle- yes, the pipes are copper pipes. what do i do about this blue ring? doesn't help that the water sat in the toilet bowls for so long since the house was not finished and we were not there (still aren't living there yet, although we did get the final cert. of occ. yesterday).

so, can anyone recommend specific systems for the water? i have no idea what to buy.
