I am finally feeling better, Hyper Active Thyroid and I am not sure what else was going on but I felt terrible, it was nice you pointed out to me its because my Thyroid is Hyper I wasnt sure what was happeing to me, I was feeling anxious for a while and then my heart started racing and I really felt terrible, went back on blood pressure meds and my doctor gave me short acting Indarell for racing, I was very dizzy and had blurry vision,SOB when standing, chest pain, ER felt I had Pericarditis due to change in rythm on EKG, cardiologiest isnt sure, lost 6 lbs in 2 weeks...

Now my question is I have been decreasing my thyroid meds the last few months and had been increasing my meds while being treated for LYme, any reason ( I had thyroid surgery approx 15 years ago for goiter)

How do I know the thyroid was causing all these issues or Lyme is acting up again?

I am really confused your help would be greatly appreciated

Hi judy3.  I am so glad you had this checked. 

Remind me what thyroid meds you were taking and when you started them.  Have you been getting blood tests done while you are decreasing?  This imporant.  How much have you decreased the meds at this point and have you noticed improvement in any of the symptoms you mentioned?

You said you are increasing meds, which meds?  For Lyme?

It may be a matter of finding the best dose of thyroid meds which can take time.  Does your doctor want you to continue taking a lower dose or is he/she planning for you to discontinue the thyroid meds?  Do you have thyroid antibodies?

To me, the fast weight loss, anxiety, and heart-racing sounds like hyerthyroidism.  It is possible these symptoms could be from Lyme, but since you are getting treated for thyroid and since they came on pretty quickly my non-medical guess is it is likely thyroid related.

ditto.  I have the exact same questions as well as - are you changing meds under the direction of your LLMD or Endo physician or on your own?

For me I must test my thyroid levels more ofter and keep on adjusting my Synthroid, are you being tested for Hormones in the place you are?

Hi Martha's Vineyard.  Yes, Lyme can affect the thyroid.  It can also affect adrenal and hormone levels.  I think anyone who has Lyme should have all of these levels tested.  When hormone levels are off, many symptoms can result.

Important tests to include for thyroid testing are the Free T3, Free T4 (besides the T3 and T4) and thyroid antibodies in addition to the normal panel. These are blood tests.  They are not usually done by most doctors but are necessary for a comprehensive view. 

From what I understand, saliva testing is more reliable than blood testing to test adrenal and hormone levels.  The lab I used was ZRT http://provider.zrtlab.com/
