ceftin anyone?

can someone explain the reason some meds work for some and not for others.i have been on zithro,doxy,flagyl,malarone,i.v. rocephin,and minocycline,all with no results.Now my llmd is putting me on ceftin.Why might this help when none of the others did?also how long should it take to feel something when on a new med.I have only been on minocycline for one month and now he is changing meds again.

There could be a number of reasons:

1. After reading the book "Cure Unknown," apparently there are a large number of Lyme strains, not just one.  So you could have one that isn't very reactive to the ABX you've taken thus far.

2. Everyone immune system is different and because of this, we react differently to different ABX.

3. Potential coinfections

4. Possible misdiagnosis...not something any of us like to think about, but a possible reason nonetheless.

I have a herx affect almost immediately when I take abx.  According to Dr. Burrascano, one should see a herx within 48-72 hours.  This is the time it takes abx to reach full circulation in the body.

This is just my thoughts off the top of my head, but I'm sure other more experienced members will be along shortly to give you some good answers to your questions.

I took Ceftin and it didn't seem to help. I do well on Biaxin and Plaquenil combo. I could not tolerate Rifampin. I wasn't sure if Rifampin was giving me extreme Herx or I was allergic.

I was just put on Spectracef. I did not Herx but joint pains and fatigue are showing improvement. I think Spectracef is a form of Ceftin. I also think Spectracef is a new abx. My LLMD had a coupon that got me $25 off the price of the SPECTRACEF. That was good because even with insurance it would have cost $35. Google Spectracef for more info.

I am also still taking the Biaxin and Plaquenil.
