I had a golden retriever that suffered for years with joint pain that the vet told me was arthritis because they are prone to having arthritis and cancer. So, for years I gave him glucosamine and it wasnt until they came out with a new test to test for heartworm and lyme together that he showed up positive. I figure he had Lyme for about
7-8 years and lived to be 13. He also had bleeding from his penis and they neutered him (this was before the lyme diagnosis) thinking that he had prostate problems. I gave him a couple of courses of antibiotic with some improvement but not much. The poor guy had it for years and no one knew. He was the best friend a person could ever have...and now I have Lyme and I wish he was here to keep me company as I feel very alone and he could have at least made me smile...was an awesome dog.
