I am surprised my mentally fogged up mind could keep focused on this book as it covers everything about
the disease, finding what causes it, the search for a cure and the politics that influences the scientific community from ever finding one. I forgot much of what I read but I am left stunned and even more worried than ever about
what I am facing as the stories are horrific. In fact, half way through this book I made my first appointment with the nearest LLMD which is a 9 hour drive away!
I dog eared a few things that stood out for me. First of all, the scientist that discovered the bacteria, for whom it is named after (Borgdorfer) and the lab where he made his discovery is in Hamilton MT 11 miles from me. Later on she states that scientists in MT (actually in this same lab) have been trying to identify the lyme like bacteria that is now here in the wood tick. The state was previously thought to be lyme free and many people are undiagnosed because the medical community is still unaware. Thank God I had the rash and diagnosed myself online when I was researching chronic fatigue and lyme kept coming up.
Looking for a cure, there are very few people in the book cured. One child became symptom free on a macrobiotic diet. The author says that Dr. Burrascano took Ceftin until he had no symptoms, then quit completely. He allowed his symptoms to return and did not take anything until he was extremely sick. Then he took Ceftin again until he was symtom free. He did this 3 times and after this he never relapsed. The author also cured herself using this treatment. The author doesn't mention anyone (I can remember) that were healed from herbal remedies or machines although she does say that there are many people trying different approaches.
