Air Hunger...PLEASE help!!!!

Can anyone suggest ideas on how to help with air hunger. I almost called 911 two nights in a row

because I started having a panic attack. It is horrible when I am tired and yawning- I cannot breath and yawn at the same time. All day I am struggling to get a deep breath. I have not had it this long (weeks) and this scary, it usually would go away after a couple of days. I am wondering if anyone knows what causes it too be worse at sometimes? I am fighting a cold and our weather is unusually freezing, could that have anything to do with it?? PLEASE any suggestions would be so appreciated, quite frankly I am scared of it and I don't know what to do. My DR. hasn't any suggestions.

are you treating babesia? before I started treating it, I had bad air hunger which eventually went away while on mepron

wow, this is scary!! It's terrifying when you can't breath!!

Are you seeing an LLMD? If you are, they should have a lot more suggestions for you. Maybe you need to see a cardiologist?
Have you been given anything for anxiety?

I'm also concerned about the cold. Has anyone listened to your lungs latelty? You should probably get back to the doctor. A good LLMD!!!

I've had air hunger associated with babesia. If I remember correctly, babs goes on a cycle which is why it may be worse on some days than others. I've needed Zithromax and Mepron to deal with my babs. I can't say that Artemesinin has helped me very much.

Air hunger is the scariest thing, what used to help me is air, like air conditioning, how about if you open the window or a vaporizer? Did you test your thyroid? I had a hyperactive thyroid and also felt air hunger, I was told that breathing into a paper bag might help but I havnt tried it, I did try covering my head with my blanket when I was in bed and it also seemed to help, I never had any other babs symptoms

I would bet money that if you start to keep a calendar of your mentraul cycle you will start to see a pattern.
If is very important that you right down bad stuff, like these two days, and journal it. And then see if it is happening right before your period. Along with everything else for that matter.
Also what were you doing when this happened? Watchin the news? a no, no for sure.
If you tap on me directly I will give you some of the different meds that were given to me to stop this for me.
I know how scary it is when you can't breath and feel like your are drowning or having a heart attack. It is the lyme being mean to you..or the host of other things that play along with it.
But keep a note book. Because the main thing about lyme is that you will not be able to remember all of the things that happen to you.

My daughter ended up in the hospital last year with chest pains and not being able to take a deep breath and air hunger. They insisted it was asthma, and she kept telling them it was not. They continued respiratory treatments every few hours and she still could not breath. They also continued her IV antibiotics. After a couple of days in the hospital, she noticed a pattern. It became worse after her antibiotics. Tried the oral version of the antibiotic, same thing. Could not breath. Turns out she had developed a sensitivity to the antibiotic.

I hope you can see an LLMD if you are not already doing so. There are a lot of things that could explain your air hunger but that is a classic text book symptom of Babesia. Sometimes you have just a few of the symptoms when you are infected and they can come and go. Often you won't even test for it so it goes undiagnosed while you search elsewhere for answers. If you were bitten by a tick, and especially if you know you are infected with one bacteria, chances are very high that you have a co-infection of some sort. In some places ticks carry babesia more often than they carry lyme so it is very common.
Another symptom of babesia would be fever and sweating.

Yes Babesia causes this problem BUT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I had severe air hunger and shorness of breath this past september. This came on AFTER treating babesia for almost 2 years. Went to cardiologist the whole nine yards. Cardiologist said my valves were leaking but llmd said he didn't believe that was the problem. It turns out That after I began treating bartonella which was the only thing I tested negative for ,those symptoms went away. I have been treating Bart with minocycline and rifampin along with malerone since september and am feeling better. The only thing I feel now is that the babesia symptoms may be returnig as I am feeling the faint headache thing returning. I am so tired of this......I know so are you. Blessings

THANK YOU.....for all the responses. I suppose I should have given more background. I have been so worried about this that I did not think of it. Yes, I was treated for babesia, and after a big flare last summer my Dr said he believed I had treatment failure (is this common?) so he changed my meds from the previous babesia treatment, now I am on Malarone, Bactrim DS, Bicilin shots, and a slew of supplements. I finally got a call back from my Dr. this afternoon saying I should add Artemisinin and Herbal calm to see if that will help with the air hunger. I am also going to go back on a Thyroid med~ Armour. As of right now I am just praying that it will work and make it go away.

I have written down all of your suggestions and appreciate it more than I can write. There is some peace in knowing that I am not alone, and that others understand. My family (not spouse) are very inconsiderate and just do not care to understand, or try too.

Previous Antibiotic treatment~

  • October 2006 Doxycycline;
  • March 2007 added Mepron, Zithromax, Azithromycin;
  • April 2007 Added Bicilin Shots, Artemisinin;
  • June 07 stopped Doxy, Azithromycin;
  • July 07 added Flagyl and plaquenil;
  • October 07 stopped Mepron, Zithromax, Plaquenil, Flagyl, I started Levaquin, Armour;
  • January 08 Stopped Levaquin, added Flagyl (again) and Fluconazole;
  • June 08 added Bactrim Ds, Malarone;
  • November 08 stopped Armour, Fagyl, Fluconozole

Again, thank you for helping and sharing your experiences. This is the only place I know of where so many people support each other within this crumby disease.

When I was in the acute phase of babesiosis back in Summer '06 there were a few times I was afraid I might be crtical respiratory distress. Limber I'm wondering if it could be that you are effectively treating your Babs, hence the severe, acute phase-like symptoms.  Babs can get extremely ugly when you pick on it.

I have Babesia but it doesn't bother me that much - my air hunger might have been from something else (it was usually correlated with a heavy feeling in my heart), but it was often relieved at least somewhat if I took magnesium, especially magnesium/potassium aspartate.
