Story on The Today Show about Chimp

The Today Show just had a story on about a chimp attacking its owner's friend.  People were speculating about why this may have happened.  One possible reason stated was that the chimp was being treated for Lyme disease!

I haven't posted in centuries because i felt I could offer no encouragement and then because I got well   I am now wondering if the reality is its back,  Anyway thank u for the article. It was on tv tonight no mention of lyme disease.  And the article implied the meds caused rage would it not be more accurate that the disease caused it?   I was no stranger to rage.  I'm back on looking to see if there are any research studies being done, I want to sign up.  Hope u are doing ok.  lisa

I read this, this evening Ticker. I was really sorry to see this but it does make you stop and think.

I was hoping that there would be an autopsy and one of the articles does include that information...
"Investigators are working with the state Department of Environmental Protection to see whether the chimp had Lyme disease, Stamford police Capt. Richard Conklin said. They also sent the chimp's head upstate to have it tested for rabies -- the protocol in animal attacks -- and sent the body to the University of Connecticut for an autopsy and a toxicology examination"


It is one of those bitter realities of the potential of the borrelia. We wait with baited breath b/c it could be very revealing for the Lyme community and those who are called to consider the science at the IDSA table. I really appreciate that this forensic autopsy is taking place. I am sorry for the owner's loss.

I am thrilled to hear they are even considering an autopsy. It will be my prayer that it is done and they are honest in their findings. I wonder if an autopsy could show borrelia and if so how.

There is a special stain that will show borrelia in tissue samples...and they could use PCR testing on tissue samples, as well.

I saw the show when lyme was mentioned and I immediately thought about a reference in Cure Unknown in which a man with lyme went crazy and attacked his neighbor with a hatchet (or something like that). I hope that whoever does the brain autopsy looks for spirochettes - which could prove that it really does exist after a month of abx and that it is dangerous! I feel badly for the chimps owner. Everyone is a victim when it comes to lyme.
