Post-lyme issue?

Hello. I had lyme in 2006 and it was pretty rough, but very thankfully I recovered and have been living a normal life for 2 years (no meds and feeling well most of the time).

I highly recommend www.lymefree.com as I felt that this modality allowed almost all of my sx to go away.

I have a question that if anyone has some insight about, that would be most appreciated.... I had an entire laundry list of sx and they are all gone....except one.... My left cheek flares up and feels numb and then I feel kind of dizzy. This happens intermittently and I feel badly for complaining b/c I know how it feels to be debhiliated by Lyme.

I do not want to re-live the trauma of re-testing and going through the emotional aspects of all of this again not to mention the $). However, I am working on getting pregnant and just wonder if this sx could be something else, or residual lyme or maybe even nerve damage from when I was quite ill.

If anyone has any insight, I would appreciate it.

Hi ShelKB.  I am glad you are doing so much better!

Did you have this symptom when you were getting treated for Lyme?  Are you having any other symptoms?  Sometimes when people are used to dealing with multiple symptoms, they forget they are not normal.

I think it would be a good idea to find out what this symptom is from, Lyme or otherwise.  Since you would like to get pregnant, I think it would be a good idea to consult a Lyme doctor and be tested.

Thanks Ticker. Not so much when I was being treated...I had other odd sensations on the left side of my face though...

I think I just feel so much better having my normal life back that going through all of the testing and more abx seems unfathomable to me.... Does this make sense?

I do not think I am having other sx--I guess I could be minimizing but I don;t think so. Can it come and go like that in one sx? It seems odd that I have al of the fear in me but I almost cannot being myself to go to a lyme doc...

The fact that it comes and goes makes me think that it might be more of a resurgence of Lyme than permanent damage. I don't really know. You should get checked out before having a baby.

Oh, and Ticker, sometimes when this sx pops up, I look at the long list of lyme sx and I say not to almost every sx... every now and then i get a pin-prickly feeling in my hands but that is usually when i am nervous...

I am not sure what to make of not really resonating with the list but having this one odd thing...

That symptom could just be residual Lyme. You may no longer have an active infection though. This stuff is weird. I recall a woman who wrote for philadelphia newspaper her account with Lyme.

She's recovered but has that weird sensation in her cheek -- like there's a baby fist there.

Isn't that odd?

Sorry I can't be more help. Maybe get on that one pregnancy safe medication for good measure for both you and the baby. Congratulaitons on this next big step in life. When it happens, I bet you'll have great health. Lyme is a hormone related illness.

Hi HTFAC.

This does sound like me. I just don;t feel I have an infection but I don't understand all of this anyway.

Do you know what that preg medication is? I can always try and find a Lyme doc around here and mention this to them. My old LLMD is leaving to work with vericose veins--go figure.

I think I am afraid I will pay a ton (again) more money for the testing, there will be some positive bands and they will want to slap me back on abx. I have no desire to go back on those things. Is the post-lyme testing reliable? Is it worth it if I am doing ok? What if some bands are positive but my sx are just that one?

I really appreciate the time you all have taken to share your opinions with me here--thank you.

Hi ShelKB.  Yes, I can understand not wanting to deal with the testing etc.   I don't blame you for not wanting to go back on treatment if it is not necessary.  That is why I think it is a good idea to see a Lyme knowledgeable doctor for an evalulation.  A knowledgeable doctor will not advise you to get treated if it is not necessary.

Lyme disease can be passed through pregnancy and breastfeeding.  Dr. Burrascano's 2008 Treatment Guidelines discusses Lyme and pregnancy on page 21 at http://www.ilads.org/lyme_disease/B_guidelines_12_17_08.pdf  Getting properly treated during pregnancy may minimize the possibility of transmission.  From what I understand, Amoxicillin is one med often used for treatment during pregnancy, but it needs to be a high enough dose.  Dr. B. recommends 1 gram (I believe this is 1000 mg) every six hours which would be 4000 mg daily.  This can be found on page 18 of his guidelines.
