CD57/ NK cells

We often talk about our CD57 count. CD57 is also known as a NK (Natural Killer) cell.
The only references we usually see are to Stricker.


I found this:

"Other functional immune system compartments may play
an important role in Lyme disease. Natural killer (NK) cell
function was inhibited in patients with both early and
chronic Lyme disease but was normal in patients who were
in remission (54). In this study, it was noted that the
organisms themselves inhibited NK cell function. Such an
interference could allow the organism to escape an early,
nonspecific protective response."

i have had my cd57 tested three times over the past 2 years.  it was never over 20.  still, i stopped abx for a little more than a year just because i was sick of taking them and thought i could manage the remaining symptoms through physical therapy, massage, supplements, and pain meds.  my neck pain was so bad i was encouraged by my PT to get steroid injections.  I did, and my simmering lyme disease emerged in a rolling boil.  i will stay on abx this time until my cd57 says i have a shot at staying in any remission that is acheived.

Sorry to hear that.
Steroids this time around also did me in. This was before the Lyme was diagnosed.
The CD57 count can vary, but it seems to be a good indicator over time of progress.
My doctor also follows C4a and TGF B1- both measures of inflammation.
Good luck and stay the course.
