Homeopathy to Treat Herxing: Nux Vomica Q1

I am not a homeopath but have done some training in it over time and do prescribe it for my patients and have always found it particularly effective for children and for weird symptoms. The weirder the better- and what weirder disease than Lyme/coinfections!

So here is my experience and what I know:

I was making some progress in the winter with Mepron/Azithromycin/ Omnicef/ Probenecid- but my headaches just wouldn't quit. Horrible headaches that never let up- were worse with deep breath ....made me feel irritable and I hated any noise/ hated people/ impatient/ the headaches felt llike a trauma to my head - I actually had the feeling that my head had been brutalized or had an axe in it.

So I visited my homeopath (hadn't seen him for 5 years).....told him about this. He is not knowledgeable about Lyme but did say that for deep tissue infections like Lyme you need very high doses- doses that I had never heard of Q1, Q3 doses- doses only available in Europe. He treated me with Nux Vomica- Q1 dosing initially. I had never heard of such doses. I took one dose and became worse almost immediately. I had a severe horrible headache for several hours and then miraculously the headache completely disappeared. I took it for a few more days and many herxiing symptoms improved (irritability, nausea, mood) and then when I noticed headache coming back I was hold to hold the remedy. I remained headache free for 2 weeks. When headache restarted I restarted the homeopathy and again had a positive response. I had been headache free for 3 months, until this week when I started Rifampicin (there is another thread here for this!)

On Rifampicin I developed headache, emotional lability, and nausea/food aversions. My homeopath put me on a higher dose, Q3 of Nux Vomica. After the first dose I worsened -- very emotional, uncontrollable crying- anger....... and within 24 hours- have felt great- best I have felt in the past 9 months of treatment.

Nux Vomica is a great remedy for Lyme for many reasons (I quote some of this from Boericke Materia Medica):

1. It is safe. Nux Vomica is used to treat any condition that results from excess/overdose of drugs. It has an ability to bring the system into equilibrium. One reason that it was selected for me is because like all of us I was on many medications

2. The typical patient needing it is: irritable nervous system, hypersensitive to sound/ light / stimulation/ does not want to be touched. Cannot bear noises, odor and light. .....again like most of us

3. Treats headache, vertigo, photophobia, , anything irritable .... even irritable bladders

4. Nux vomica treats liver congestion/ livers that are taxed from drugs....

I could go on and on from the Materia Medica. So let's find a homeopath and do some trials. I have had such a positive result wanted to sahre this info. I wouldn't recommend self treating because these are such high doses and if effective it will worsen symptoms in the first day.......would love to know if anyone else is knowledgeable with homeopathy to help us!!

I have been studying and using homeopathy for personal use since about 1985 or so... Nux V. is a great remedy for drug side-effects/reactions. I've also found Causticum helpful for my wandering leg pains, restless joints, and joint pains.

There is a book by Peter Alex called "The Homeopathic Treatment of Lyme Disease" ~ excellent read. It gives a series of successful case reports. I was so encouraged by this book, I just wish there was a decent homeopathic physician near where I live. I really believe homeopathy may be the only way I can get adequate treatment for Lyme, given how shut down my gut is, how toxic my liver is (fatty liver disease dx in March), and how sensitive I am to everything.

Anyway, Nux V. was the remedy of choice in one of the case reports in the book, given to a man who had had Lyme for a very long time.

I have heard of remedies that were of such stong potency that they had to be handled very carefully - and that a person could get a dose of the remedy just by handling the container...thanks for sharing about this.

Wow....thanks for sharing.  Studied some in homeopathy years ago for personal use (prior to lyme).  Did not know about the Q doses....interesting.  Nux Vomica has been a LIFESAVER to me over the years when I could get sudden & drastic onset of nausea (& other drastic symptoms....have mold illness)....enough that I needed to leave wherever I was because I was feeling extremely sick & even concerned I would pass out from it.  It would squelch that quickly.  I have recommended it over the years to many who have also found good results.  I carry it in my purse just in case, although I don't get those spells anymore but still good for the occasional "overindulgence."  I am doing a trial on Ledum for lyme presently, although based on these higher doses, probably not nearly what is needed.  Will look for that book on treating Lyme with homeopathics....thanks for sharing.  Wishing you wellness!
