It might be too soon to tell, but I am at the end of a 28 day course of IV ceftriaxone, after being on oral abx. since March 3, and I feel better overall. My energy level isn't exactly back, but I've been on abx for 3 months, so that in itself is going to take some time to recover from.
I have slight stiffness aroud my knees, and my back keeps bothering me, but I think and hope that the back issues are from falling down the steps in March. The chiropractor seemed to think so, when I was there on Thursday. I hadn't gone in between, because I didn't feel I had the stamina to tolerate an adjustment. I did have massage and Reiki done twice. My lymph nodes have been slowly getting smaller, that was worrying me, but I read that they can stay enlarged even after an infection is gone. All the other symptoms are gone. I do get scatter brained, but that was before Lyme, and didn't seem to get worse than it was prior to this.
I do plan to use herbal treatment when I am done with the abx, because I don't want to take chances. So many people need months and years of treatment. I was bitten in June 2005, and treated in late August 2005, but only with 100 mg. doxycycline bid for 10 days. I did improve and went on herbal treatment afterward for about a year and a half. I thought I was fine at that point so went of of all the herbal supplements except the multi and probiotic, and what I take for homones. Last winter I was picking up every virus that went around, which knocked my resistance down and the Lyme resurfaced. My immune system must have been able to keep it supressed and dormant all this time, so I must have been doing something right.
The ID MD who treated me does not believe in chronic Lyme and said that 28 days is enough to kill it. I have read enough to not necessarily trust that opinion, but was just glad that she was willing to treat me. I hope it is gone for good, but I plan to take even better care of myself from now on! And if I relapse again, I will be searching for whatever it takes to be well!
