Why are CORTISONE/STERIOD injections bad for LD?

I know that these ijections can help for the inflamation I am dealing with in my left shoulder. I have been working on getting my upslipped hip back into place but the extreme pain in the opposite shoulder/arm is never ending. In the past these shots put the pain to sleep. I did not need them for years after. I am really considering getting these done even though my GP would disapprove. I am debilitated and have been for nearly 5 years with this problem. What do you think. Maybe the benefits outweigh the risks? I really need advice. thanks, amey

Steroids suppress inflammation by suppressing the immune system, which then enables Lyme/coinfections to burrow deeper into the body and become more well-established. That is why steroids are bad for those with Lyme. So if you do need the anti-inflammatory action of the steroids, make sure you are also on some kind of anti-Lyme treatment.

Stutterbug, I am sincerely sorry about your pain and debilitation. I hope you and Dr can figure out a way to get you some relief!

In this case, might something like LDN be helpful?

Low dose naltrexone. I have not yet done enough research (and have requested input from a friend of a friend), but if you do a search on it, it sounds miraculous. It builds your immune system in autoimmune (sp?) illnesses. Supposedly some positive success w/ Lyme.

I've been asking about it and will do more searching when I can. I do not know if it would be appropriate w/ steroids, maybe others here would know?

i had knee surgery last yr. wasnt able to walk at all on it for 8 months. after surgery and 6wks PT i was still in a ton of pain. this was b4 i knew i had lyme. iwas given the shots in my knee. well let me tell you. i just thought i was in pain b4 the shot. oh no it get way worse if you can belive that possable. it was after that i was placed on celeberx. there is a lot of resons not to take it. sideficts not good for some, but i have been on it for 1 yr not and am doing fine. just have to have blood work every 3 months to get my liver.

I wish you some relife soon
