Hello -- just want to tell you all I'm still reading as many of your posts as I can, and my thoughts and prayers are still going out to everyone, I just haven't been able to respond -- been ill (tho still not as sick as most of you!) and have had very little time.  So I won't blame anyone for not responding here.  I do want to say that I am deeply and sincerely sorry for the serious issues many of you are dealing with and my prayers are with you.

Anyway,  I've had a dental emergency and had oral surgery this morning.  (and the surgeon was ruthless).  He gave me 21  500 mg pills of amox.  Note:  I did not appear to have an infection, I believe he was covering his butt for all the mutilation and the fact that he neglected to call the pharmacy for my pre-med, which I need for mitral valve prolapse.

Question:  is there by any chance anything useful I can do w/ this? Does Lyme react at all to Amox and do I have enough to try to cause a herx, simply for the purpose of aiding in my diagnosis? (will see LLMD the week after next)

And/OR: I have read in a couple of pieces that taking abx for a short period and then stopping, can aid in a positive WB test, if the person has Lyme.  I have also read you MUST be abx free before a WB test.  Which is more apt to be correct?

Any chance that if I take this according to the directions, for a week and then am done,  that it will help or hinder an accurate test?

I hope your feeling better soon. its not unuasle for them to give abx after surgery. i was given them for having a tooth pulled. yes it covers there butts too..lol

as for abx b4 WB test, i was on doxy the first of the month and WB test was at the end of the month. i was positive for IgM and negitive for IgG. so i am not sure, but dont belive it will hurt at all. i also found in a ite that abx b4 WB test can make the little buggers more active to showing up in blood work.

so its a catch 22 factor, danged if you do and danged if you dont.

I haven't heard many people say anything about not being on abx before a test. If you've had a negative lyme test, many doctors (LLMDS, that is) will put you on abx in an attempt to get the body producing the lyme antibodies. And yes, lyme is effected by Amoxicillin.

I hope this is a blessing in disguise for you and that it will yield a positive test result.

I can tell you that amoxicillian is definitely a drug for Lyme. That's how I found out I had Lyme Disease for sure because I had a really bad herx. I was on 1500mg though. I know antibiotics does get the little creatures out and moving but it didn't seem to help much in my case. I tookmy WB test two weeks after stopping the meds and it was still negative. Ugh! I'm not sure how it could hurt the test but I think you need to be on it much longer for the test to be positive when you have chronic Lyme. Just my opinion of course.

I would still take it if I were you because of you just having tooth surgery....to prevent infection.

Thanks for all the input! Well, I'm to take 1500 mg per day, but only for a week. In the past, I've always responded to abx, so we will see...

Cajun, how long before you herxed on that dose of amox?

Lyme,

I think it was about 3 days into taking it. Even though my herx was really bad, I still think I'd rather be on it again. I will see what my doctor says. At least I know what to expect from it.

If you start herxing, do a detox bath that night. It really helps so much. Oh, and good luck. If you have any questions, I'm here for you.

Thanks, CJ! You hang in there, now! Maybe Amox would help you, but maybe you already had too much? Definitely ask your Dr if you feel you experienced anything significant!

I tested negative on quest in may 2008. Bit summer 2007. Saw LLMD I sept and didn't retest until march. I was on meds. Igenex test showed one more band positive and 2 "IND" . LLMD said those "IND" bands will eventually show positive if we retest in the future. I requested the test. I really wanted the positive. He didn't need it. He knows I have Lyme and diagnosed me clinically with my history. Don't freak out too much about getting a positive test. I was obsessed with it for awhile. It is what it is...I am being treated and the test sucks and there is a good chance it may never be positive.

You will feel better about all of this after your appointment. Some of the sickest people with Lyme don't test positive. You need to realize the little bugs don't hang out in the blood too long. If they did we'd all test positive. The bacteria take on different forms and hide in our bodies(joints,muscles,CNS). They are really smart,too. Some antibiotics can't kill them. I think that is why treatment is so long. A LOT of trial and error. If your doc is good, he will diagnose you clinically. That is all you need. Read info from the ILADS website. The docs are great there(mine being one of them)...the more you learn the more you understand the tangled web of Lyme.
