DR R. in NYC has a 2-3 months wait, what do I do!

I was planning to go see DR R. in NYC but the office just told me that I will have to wait until September.  I don’t know what to do.

 

he has a Physician Assistant (PA), I am wondering if the PA will be as good as the Doctor?  or should I try to find a different doctor that knows about Lymes.   or should i just get started on lymes with a whomever Infection Disease specialist my family doctor reefers me to?.

 

 I really don’t want to wait until September to start treating this.

I would still make the appointment. Ask to be put on a cancellation list. When someone cancels their appointment, you will be called to take their spot. Make the appointment and in the meantime, if you find another doctor, you can always cancel it.

The PA's are usually just as knowledgeable as the doctors. In fact, I much rather see the PA at my endo's office because he seems to know more and he works with me.

JohnLyme, many Lyme doctors are booked.  I agree about asking to be notified of any cancellations.  This often helps to get an earlier appointment.  If you want other doctor names in NY, feel free to email me.

when i was first send to a nuero Dr. it was a long wait for my appointment. i called to be placed on the cancellation list. no sooner did i hang up they called me right back to see him the next day. and like all the others have stated above. its a good idea. no harm in trying

Hey John, You might want to try calling Dr. R's once or twice a week to ask if any new cancellations came in. Do this in addition to making the first available appointment and being put on the cancellation list. My appointment was moved up to just two weeks from the first time I called for an appointment using this method. Dr. R's PA is extremely competent and I believe she learned from and is treating under one of the best - Dr. R. himself. lol His staff is excellent also. Good luck.

Can I ask who Dr. R is and if he takes insurance and how good he is. I am in NJ and considering going to NYC if I don't have any luck with dr. I am now seeing. Thanks.

springsjean, doctor names are not posted on the board.  You can email me for his contact information.

Most Lyme doctors no longer take insurance because insurance companies do not reimburse them.  You can submit the bills to your company for reimbursement.  Some pay more than others.

Dr. R is one of the top in the country and I believe one of the founding members of ILADS. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

He has a tremendous amount of experience treating LD and is very understanding, patient and compassionate. I read so many fantastic things about him and after my first appointment realized they were all true.

I'm sure you'll like him and will be in good hands.
