western blot and ELISA postive for lymes, then means i have lymes right ?

I have read that when some tesst comback negative for lymes you could still have lymes.

 In the other hand if one of this test like the western blog comes back postive then that means that for sure I have lymes and I might as well start treament. did i understand this correcly ?

 my doctor told me that he had a western blot and elisa done on my blood, and it came positive for lymes, so it is safe for me to assume from now on that i have this ?

 

Hi JohnLyme,  Welcome!  I would say that you most probably have LD.  You should read the Newbie thread and if you don't have a LLMD and need help finding one post here for help.  Most regular doctors know little about LD and how to treat it.  The sooner you get the proper treatment the greater your chances are of getting better, don't delay!   There is no test that can tell you for sure if you have LD or you DON"T have LD.  Some doc's will tell you that your positive WB is a false negative!  If you tested postive thru a regular lab like LabCorp then your doctor is more likely to believe the results, most doubt the results from Igenex saying they don't use approved methods.  Igenex actually test for more antibodies than the CDC allows which is insane that they restrict the testing that regular labs do.  I would suggest your add a "signature" for the bottom of your post so people know your history and you won't have to repeat yourself over and over answering questions, also read all that you can and become your own advocate, if you don't noone willl.  Take Care, KO

With the positive test and your symptoms (swollen knee) he should at least give you an Rx for abx until you can see a LLMD, don't wait.  Look at the Newbie section and also the ILADS guidelines for abx dosing.  You could print this out and bring to your doctor to show him so he could prescribe the abx.  The longer you wait to treat the harder it is to get rid of it!
