8 years ago, I had an infection which was first deemed as Staph. It has come back 4 times since then, and one doctor said it sounded more like shingles because the rash was on my ear, but the pain goes up my head, into my eye, and in classic places where the trigeminal nerve path is located.
Here I am 2 years after my last "rash" and the pain comes back almost every month...today and yesterday it was so bad I had to take Valium to give me a little relief. I have to believe this is post shingles pain, and one ER doctor said I can expect to have it forever.
I don't want to resort to taking Valium every time this happens! Right now it's just throbbing into my eye and it feels like it's stemming from the bone right in my ear canal. I CAN'T STAND IT! Right when I realize that I haven't had the ear pain for a while, it returns!
Does anyone else deal with this?
I had the first outbreak long before my Lyme/MS symptoms. I was only 17. I thought it was from a cheap earring, and maybe it was at that time...the infections following were MUCH worse looking, with clear fluid filled blisters and what looked like dried, crusted skin covering the entire outside of my ear.
I almost think the pain now is worse than when I had the actual rash!
