I've seen this mentioned in some threads.

Can some one enlighten on what this means?

You could ask your doctor. But I believe with treatment that doctors like to see it at 60 or above, that it means the treatment is working.

I just read a really interesting article about this. Basically, it said that while CD-57 can be helpful. it is not always meaningful. The doctor said that on average, her lyme patients had lower CD-57's, but that some of the sickest ones had really high levels.

She also said that the levels naturally vary by a large amount, and so it can be hard to tell what the "actual" level is.

So, a decreasing CD-57 could be a sign of increasing illness, or it might be random.

I'd love to give you a reference, or link to the article, but I'm having trouble finding it right now. If I find it, I'll post it.

My LLMD does not believe the CD57 tells anything important as far as Lyme goes. He said it indicates NOTHING!

However I still asked for the test for my own reference.

It is controversial as some LLMDs won't use it. But both my LLMD and LLMD neurologist use it.

As I cannot test positive anymore for the regular Lyme tests, my doctors really do look to that as an indicator.

And I have to agree with them that if I were a healthy person, I would not consistently test in the 30s (when healthy is over 100 or 200, or something). So it indicates *something*, a poor immune system, I suppose.

It's too bad that Lyme tests are unreliable. We really need some better tests. Doctors seem to be reaching for any alternative test which could point to something because of the disgracefully poor Lyme tests.

Thanks All,

I re-read my lab reports. I don't see this any where. The only thing close that has to do with the immune system is the NKC (Natural Killer Cell) results. My doctor said I should be at 150 of higher.

I am at 7!

I'll ask him about the CD57 when I see him again in two weeks.

The "Natural Killer Cell" results is also called a CD57. The correct name is a Stricker NK Panel CD57. So, you already had the test done. 7 is a VERY low number. You should be in the 100's just like your doctor said.

Depending on which lab is used the CD57 is listed as a total number or a percentage.  A "normal" CD57 should be a 10 or a "100" or higher.  Mine was a 3 or a "30".  My LLDr. says that he likes to get his Lyme patients at a 6 or a "60" or higher.  Hope this helps. 

But..... I cannot remember which number or percentage is used by which lab - LOL.... Lyme disease = a real poopy memory for me!  rolleyes smhair rolleyes
