Leaky Brain Syndrome Article - Interesting!

Well in the past I really suffered from brain fog, lyme rage episodes, fatigue, etc.   I got better from clearing out the ammonia in my brain and body.   I just happened to stumble on this article from Dr. Jernigan (the protocol I followed that worked for me). 

Anyway, here is an interesting article that Dr. J. wrote about ammonia and Leaky Brain Syndrome:

Razzle, as I recall, you recently stated that you cannot eat most solid food. Can you please tell me, w/ all your issues, what you can eat? I think I can get by w/o bread (the wheat, rye, etc) if need be, but always thought rye bread was good for me.

I am interested in trying the ammonia test in this article, not that I'm sure how to do it, but will get some ammonia (along w/ lemons on my list!) and try.

There is some here that I don't understand. Am I to understand that I should NOT be taking amino acid? I have been taking amino acid supplements for some time, as I do not always eat enough meat or foods w/ the complete amino acids found in meat. I also used to take it to help firm muscles when dieting and exercising. (key words, 'used to'.)

Foods I'm eating now (tolerance is iffy for just about everything, so I just choose the least offensive) include (all cooked; can't handle raw food): Rice (& rice products, such as rice cereal, rice flour, etc.), Potatoes (& potato products, such as oven french fries, potato flour, etc.), Zucchini, Carrots, Parsley, Agave nectar, Blueberries, Blackberries, Bunflower Beeds, Pumpkin Seeds, Alpha ENF (amino-acid based meal replacement drink mix), Safflower oil, a few spices. New additions & foods less sure about tolerance include apples, scallions, & tomatoes. I try to buy as much organic as possible, because I know I have trouble with pestacides, preservatives, and do not wish to consume genetically modified foods ("frankenfood").

How much total protein is in your amino acid supplement? Most of the amino acid supplements I see in the health food stores are measured in milligrams, instead of grams. It is the amounts in grams that would be more of an issue...milligram amounts of amino acids are simply too small in my opinion to have much effect.

Everyone's situation is unique, so I think the decision whether or not to cut amino acids/proteins from your diet should be made with careful consideration of your specific situation, and with discussion with your LLMD.

I first want to say (actually I have been wanting to tell you this for the longest time) that I think you are one brilliant person!    Then I wanted to let you know that I really feel for you as I know you are going through rough times..  

I wish I could help you but it seems like you know more than I do!!  You know your body and mind the best and it seems like you are very in touch with yourself, that's a fantastic thing!  I wish I had the money to send you to see Dr. Jernigan, I know he could help you...   Darn, I wish I could send everyone on this forum there, my treat but I'm broke!

How long have you had Lyme?

Best guess is that I got infected in 1977 or 78 - I never had a bullseye rash, so don't know for sure. I started having symptoms the following year.


How long have you been in treatment?

I'm not actually in treatment for Lyme. My gut shut itself down a week after I started taking Japanese Knotweed for Lyme in 2008, and nobody was willing to treat me because they claimed I was "too sick" to treat. So I've been focusing on getting my gut functioning again instead of treating the Lyme. The only reason I'm on abx is because I have a feeding tube and the site where the tube is keeps getting infected unless I stay on IV abx. I've also been on TPN since the end of June 2008 - TPN is nutrition given through a PICC line in my arm - because of being unable to swallow anything or tolerate sufficient nutrition through the feeding tube in my stomach. However, recently, due to the antibiotics I believe, I have begun to tolerate swallowing solid foods and tube-feeding small amounts of liquids. I still cannot swallow liquids without choking.


Do you feel you are improving or will?

I don't know. My symptoms have waxed and waned over the years, so I don't know if I'm getting better or just in one of the times of less severe symptoms right now. I know that it is possible to get well again, just don't know yet how or when.

Hurrying this up as I am leaving in 2 minutes to take my older brother to his doctor.. 

Anyway, I don't think talking to Dr. Jernigan would do any good, he would have to see you with all your issues..  And that does cost money.. Hey, I wanted to go to his clinic but couldn't afford it..   It's a shame he doesn't have another clinic where a person can just get tested for allergies like you have, or whatever..     I wonder if he knows of another doctor that wouldn't be so expensive where a person could get tested for many of the tests he lists on his site..  Oh well, just racking my brain here..

There must be a reason why you have so many allergies..  

Which book do you have, his old one or his new one? 

And yes, I think it's great how so many contribute to this forum..

Razzle, I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to answer each of my questions about you. I am also sincerely sorry about your struggle. I dont' believe I would have the guts (no pun intended!) to go thru all that you go thru. You will be formost in my thoughts and prayers. I will also pray for you to find the Dr that will be able to successfully treat you!
