The naturopath I see and my LLMD charge pretty much the same amount for an office visit. The naturopath wants to see me more often because she does treatments; the LLMD sees me once a month, prescribes things and monitors my bloodwork, etc. The naturopath uses the rife machine, a Bemer (helps with bloodflow), and does allergy treatments. She sells me supplements, holistic formulas, herbs. My insurance does not pay for the visits to the naturopath or for any of the treatments and supplements she sells, or for any tests she orders. It does pay for my pharmaceuticals prescribed by the LLMD, and for tests he orders. The net result for me, with insurance, is that the LLMD is much less expensive.
I think if you find a good naturopath who knows about Lyme and coinfections, and how to treat them naturally, and the net cost is less than for the LLMD plus dx, it's worth a try. But if you really like your LLMD and it's the meds that are putting you over the top with the budget, then maybe it would be beneficial to look into signing up for one of those prescription discount programs. I know some drugstores have them, and some pharmaceutical companies offer them, but I don't have any details.
