Soviet Technology might work on antibiotic resitant infections

I share some of the same reservations about bacteriophages that Razzle has expressed. Dr. Jernigan wrote an article years ago that cited research describing how certain ABX can "trigger" bacteriophages capable of changing the genetic sequencing of bacteria so that they produce enhanced amounts of toxins. In this case, it appears that its not ABX vs bacteriophages, but that both could be risky.

I realize that a specific strain of bacteriophage would be selected, but microbial engineering could be a risky undertaking if it employs a viral strain that is not normally native to the human body.

Interesting, but scarey stuff. Messing with mother nature too often doesn't pan out in my opinion.

When I read one post about phages being in river water, I immediately thought about how many rivers, creeks, etc. have giardia now, infecting many people each year. So if the phages are in waterways, why has giardia spread so much?
