Hello all!! So I found out today that I have Lyme disease... a complete shocker to me I must say!! Apparently I have had it for a very long time and not known. I suffer from severe migraines with aura and have been under the care of a neurologist for some time. On my latest batch of bloodwork she noticed I have the markers for Lyme. So she gave me a 6 week scrip for doxycicline???? I think that is what it is called. I am a little unsure of where to begin in my journey here?!? I have had a round mark on my ankle for about 13 years. It began as a red circle with a bulls eye type effect. ( I have read that this is common) Now it is only a round scar. Any help on directions to go for information or help would be greatly appreciated!!! I am having my son checked tomorrow as I have been told this can pass to children. Thanks in advance!!! Kel

Welcome to the HW Lyme forum! I really sorry that you have need of this forum, but it is a great place to get started. May I make a suggestion? The best thing you can do is to go the top of the Lyme forum to the thread called "New to Lyme? Start here" as this has a lot of very useful information & it won't take you long to read through it.

It is my opinion that the very best thing you can do for yourself is to arm yourself with information. That will mean a lot of reading, but any treatment for Lyme is as unique as the individual who has it.

Quite a few that have discovered they have Lyme or one of the co-infections find that they have had it for some time. It's easy to miss a nymph sized tick, as they can be as small as the period at the end of this sentence. TBI's (tick-borne illnesses) can lay dormant until significant stress enters their life. I'm one. I went for over 40 years untreated - but I have had good improvement with treatment.

A couple of questions for you - How many mg of Doxy each dose are you taking? Also, how many times each day are you supposed to be taking it? Has your doc mentioned co-infection testing? Are your only symptoms the migraines? There is a comprehensive list of the symptoms that a person can have when they have a TBI in the above mentioned thread.

I'm sure you will find answers & guidance here, as we all want the same thing - healing! We are all in different stages of this illness, with other factors involved as well.

Welcome, and sorry you had to come here, but you've come to the right place. It's good your neurologist has you on doxy, but six weeks of doxy is not going to get you well. The fact that you had a bulls eye rash and markers for lyme is proof enough that you have lyme disease. Do you recall being bitten by a tick back when you got the rash? If you've had it for 13 years you'll need much more aggressive treatment than what you're getting now.

The very first thing you need to do is set up an appt with a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor (LLMD) and get on the appropriate protocol for treating your disease. You are right, lyme could very well be passed on to your son. You are wise to have him checked as well. I strongly suggest you have him tested by a LLMD.

Let me know what state you live in and I might be able to give you specific names of LLMD's in your area. If not, I'll provide you with links where you can get names of LLMDs near where you live or anywhere in the US for that matter.

You've possibly have had this disease for a long time, it's so very important you get the appropriate treatment and the best way to do that is to see an LLMD as soon as you possibly can. Also, if your son has it (I pray not) the sooner you get him treated the better his chances are for a quick recovery.
