Dr. agreed to start IV without spinal let's hope insurance co. agrees.

Woke up this morning with pain and numbness on one side of face, the same side as the blurry eye.  Got right in to dr. in light of MRI findings and new pain.  He has agreed to start IV immediately without waiting for spinal tap.  We know I have lyme from the banding so why do we need the spinal.  Let's hope the insurance company agrees and approves because I can't wait any longer.  I am getting worse by the day. 

Anyone have any experiences to share with the IV rocefin?

I did 30-days of IV-Rocephin this past fall. They inserted the pic line in the Radiology department at my local hospital using a flouroscopy. They numbed me up with lanicane before installing the pic, it wasn't painful. It took a few weeks before I noticed any improvement in my symptoms. A visiting nurse came to my house once a week to change the dressing. I hope the treatment brings you some relief from your symptoms.

Do you know how long you will be treated for?

Very good call on the doctors part. I did IV Rocephine and in my opinion your cant get any better
abx in your body faster than with IV.

How long did the doc say he wanted you to be on IV Rocephine?

The reason I ask is the first time I did the Rocephine I only was givin a 28 day treatment which was
not long enough to see much of a change at all. Took a few months off and doc put me back on another
round for 28days. Was doing much better at that point and the IV was driving me crazy so I took a break
from it for a few more months and symptoms were still lingering along. So was giving another round this
time was for 90 days and after that the doc said I was left with post lyme symptoms. I quickly found a new
LLMD and he gave me treatment for Babesia with Mepron and Zithro for Lyme and that was 6 months and
every since I have been off the Zithro I have felt so much better. Less pain, less foggy brain, more energy.

So just a lil note to remember if you are not feeling better after the first course, see if your doctor will continue
until you do feel like its making a difference. Make sure you talk this over with your doctor to so he has time to
let the insurance company know you are having a persistent bacteria. The wording to your insurance company
is very important with how they will continue your treatment. Make sure you do not get the Picc line pulled until
you have heard from your insurance company. That just keeps you from having to pay for another picc line.

congratulations!!! finally a doctor who made a decision without having you go through anymore torture testing.

Just so ya know my cousin was on oral for a few weeks and stopped..got sick and they slammed her immmediately with the reciphro and she did it IV for a few weeks (don't remember exacty how many but wasn't for ever and she is fine for the last 6 months so you are on your way. You never know. a lot of people catch a break with treatment. not everyone is in as long as everyone else.
I know how grateful you must feel. You cought a good break... take it and run with it!!!!

thanks so much everyone. The dr. said would only be for one month which surprised me but we shall see. Fingers are crossed.

That's good news... Not sure what others have done, but I used serran-wrap to keep the picc line dry when showering. A tight seal above and below the picc seems to keep the water out. You'll want to keep it dry to avoid any problems. Good Luck!

The one to two days approval has turned into one to two weeks. Screamed and yelled at dr. and ins. co. this morning. See if it gets me anywhere. If they think I am going to lose the sight in my eye or have a stroke because they are dragging their feet, they are wrong. Watch them demand a $9,000 spinal tap to pay for $3,500 IV. I am so sick of this crap. Sorry, having a bad day.
