First time on a lyme board. My name is Debbie. I was diagnosed 4.5 months ago w/ Lyme. Went on Doxy for 4 months and now on IV therapy called Rocephin. Been on it for ten days. Woke up today w/ bad rash, terrible body and joint pain, 101 fever, extreme fatigue. Called doc and told to not use the IV again until I call office on Monday (day after tomorrow). I feel absolutely terrible. Anyone else have a reaction to this IV drug? If so, what did you do after and are you better. I need some sharing if possible. Thanks. I live in Northern Virginia in Fairfax City area.

Hi diadeb,

Welcome to the forum! You are probably herxing. This is when the bacteria are dying and release toxins into your system. A good detox bath will probably help so much. It is good in a way that you are experiencing this because it means that the antibiotics are working and killing off the bacteria.

Hi diadeb,

I had an initial alergic reaction to IV-Rocephin where I broke out in hives immediately when dosing, fortunately they disapated quickly and I eventually stopped having the reaction after my body had a few days to adjust to the medication. I remember not feeling very well until the third week when I started to notice some improvement in my symptoms. The fourth week I felt even better however, my ID doc would not agree to extend the treatment beyond 30 days and had my picc line pulled. Now five months later, my new LLMD has started me on high dose oral abx treatment.

I expect that you will notice some improvement after continuing with the treatment for a while.
