plaquenil and blurred vision....

I have been on plaquenil for a while now and have started to have blurred vision. I have been to my eye doc. twice and all tests are normal. Should I continue to take it, I know that it can cause eye problems but my doc. says that it is very rare...

Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi,

I have this "phantom" blurred vision in my eye. It comes and goes. I am also on Plaquenil, but this was one of my very first symptoms a few months ago before I started plaquenil. I went to the opthamologist and all my tests were also good he said this was just lyme...nothing to do with plaquenil.

It's hard to differentiate between a symptom of lyme, and a side effect sometimes.

It is very hard to tell what's what especially when your on several meds at one time. I hope your vision improves soon. Thank you.

Be careful because not all eye drs know lyme. I started with blurred vision after starting zithromax. Eye dr. couldn't find anything wrong with eye but sent me for visual field test just to be careful because of the lyme. I failed the visual field and was referred to a neurologist. Neuro sent me for mri which reveals lesions on brain. I stopped the zithromax hoping it was just a herx but no luck. I am in my third month of blurred vision which has advanced to facial burning and eye pain. Because the insurance cmopany is denyin me IV, I have apepaled and moving on to new lyme dr. How long has eye been blurry? I have found that benadryl helps some but I understand it is not great to take antihistimines because they can hinder immune system. Best of luck.

I did have a visual field test reciently and it was normal. My eyes have been blurry for about a month now, a couple of months after starting plaquenil. I am also on flagyl, diflucan (1 a week) cholestyramine, doxy., mycelex and chlortrimazol. So i'm not really sure at this point what the cause is my guess is the plaq.

Yeah, I had vague eye trouble from plaquenil too - no problem found on eye exams, but after I stopped the plaquenil, the problem went away.

How long were you on the plaquenil? What dose were you on? I am up to 1/2 bid.

I was on it for about a year, 400mg/day.

I don't think i'll ever make it to 400 mg....it makes me so jittery and anxious. Did it make you feel that way?
