my3girls: I'm not understanding exactly what you are saying, because the WB does test the IgG and IgM. Was the first, positive test he had, the Elisa? And then the WB?
Don't give up just yet -- there are zillions of reasons a lyme test will come out false negative. What does his Dr. say?
You know, there is something that I have not seen discussed on here -- perhaps it has, but I have not noted: I had one positive band on the WB IgG, band 39. My new DR admitted this was significant and discussed the fact that most up to date LLMDs consider one species specific band indicates Lyme.
I told him I understood that this band showed I have Lyme specific antibodies in my blood, but could it possibly indicate that I had at one time been infected w/ Lyme, but the infection is no longer active?
Well, guess what, my LLMD called me very 'astute' before he went on to tell me why he believes this infection is still active.
When he noted that I am positive for Babesia, I asked him if if was possible that my Lyme was cured, but that I was still sick because my Babs had not been treated. And he said 'YES, CERTAINLY'.
Happens to be, in my case, that we have enough symptoms, indications, and lab work to tell us my LYme is still active.
But I wonder, in a case such as your husband's, IF it is possible that he has kicked the lyme, but is still infected w/ co-infections.
Does this stuff make sense?
I, personally believe that your husband should have more tests -- like the WB (if he didn't already) and a CD57. Neither of these are proof positive, but can possibly help steer you in the right direction. Also believe that some tests for co-infections would be in order.
