can our kidneys be harmed from lyme.....has anyone ever have there kidneys tested.....

I have a Urinary Trac Infection and i think it went to my kidneys and going back to the dr. but i have always got UTI's ...just wondering it lyme can make you more prone or if getting your liver checked is worth it. my dad asked me the other day if i have had it checked cause of all the meds im am on..can abx cause harm to your kidneys?

Jennie, I do not know, but hope someone on here does. Because my kidneys seem to be operating OK, but I have a very swollen abdomen and have been concerned about liver and spleen (re: abx and babs) I think that kidneys would be in there, too.

Hope someone tells us how to check this or about our symptoms. There are TOO many things that can cause repeated kidney infections/UTIs, etc.

Jennie, have your UTI's always tested positive for bacteria? For many years I had one UTI after another. Some tested positive with enough bacteria to be considered an infection, but many had low levels of bacteria but lots of symptoms. It was not unusual when I got a bad UTI to feel back pain where my kidneys are, usually after being treated. Long journey to a diagnosis of interstitial cystitis and even longer to the correct diagnosis of Lyme with bartonella and babesia. The bartonella can cause inflammation in the bladder with pain that feels like a UTI.

My LLMD does monthly checks of my blood to test for liver and kidney function. Do you get that done as part of your treatment?

hello i went to my lyme dr today. I left work whithin and hr of me being there. I was so uncomftable with my leg pain and bloating. My lyme dr said that it sounds hormonal and from the bartenolla. I was tested today for a uti and it wasnt positive. it had a lil bacteria but not enough to be considered a uti. he asked me how my mentral cycle has been and i told him that last month was a odd month. that i thought i was pregnant, crampy, bloated,hungry and belly gassy, had a yeast infection b4 and then uti syptoms after my period. so he told me to go off all my meds for a week to give my body a break and he gave me diflucan for yeast. he gave me 3 of them to take every other day to flush my body out from yeast. He saikd that my headaches are from the bartenolla.

rose i am going to mention to test my liver and kidney when i see him next wed. and see what he thinks. he did ask me if i have ever had any cysts ... if the yeast flushing out doesnt make me feel better i am going to go to my gyno cause i had last year a small procedure to scrape out cancer cells and have hpv...my last pap smear was in the spring and it was normal but maybe i should have a check. i dont know if you can have syptoms from hpv in the cervix...

+lyme i was reading on a site last night that they havnt fig out why women get uti's freckently. with all the technology that we have they cant fig. this one out. i hate them and i want to know why every time after i have my period i feel like im getting one. i have mentioned this to my gyno b4 and she blew it off.....nice :(

Hi Jennie. If you want to get a lot of information about bladder pain and some really good suggestions about how to help yourself, you may want to check out this forum: http://www.ic-network.com/

Even if, like me, your bladder pain is caused by bartonella and hormones, this is a good site. No one knows what causes IC, which is inflammation and sometimes ulceration of the bladder lining, causing pain and maybe bleeding. One of the things that made the biggest difference for me was the IC diet. Some foods cause bladder pain, so if you avoid those, you could feel better. They also have a lot of other great ideas. I hope you feel better soon.
