The one thing I'm noticing is that I'm always thirsty, but when I drink water it tastes funny and doesn't really make the thirst go away.  Does anybody have this?  Is it common?  If so, what helps?   I'm on Cipro and Amoxicillin.  I have learned so much from this forum.  Thank you everybody.

I have days that I am thirsty the whole day. I also have sensitivity to taste/smell, so maybe that is happening with you, also. I have read this can happen with Lyme. I am on Amoxicillin also, but I have had the smell/taste issue even before I started amox. How much amox do you take, and why do you take Cipro also?

Simela - I'm fairly new to all this but it's my understanding that the combination Cipro and Amoxicillin addresses two separate issues with the bacteria. I read about it on one of the links but can't remember the exact reasoning. The thirst thing is annoying especially when you try to drink and there's no quenching the thirst.

PattiB - I've been very sensitive to smells for years. The sensitivity to taste, especially to water, is new.

I get very frustrated with sites saying no cure w/abx, then there are the sites that say no cure unless you use them. Have decided this is a personal journey and you have to do what you think is best.

I posted a thread to diferent protocols, if you are interested in a good, informative read.  As far as thirst, I have days when I feel v. thirsty, but it does not happen every day.  Your body must want liquids, so give it to it.  It never hurts to stay hydraded, specially on medicine.  We need to eliminate toxins to ease the path to healing from this aweful disease. 

Do you think that your city treated water recently?  That may be why you are sensitive to it.  If you trust the water, drink it.  Put a lemon in it to change the taste or drink tea, instead.  That is what I would do.  Avoiding drinking water because you don't like the taste is not a good solution in my oppinion. 

There are days when the water tastes (to me), bad, but there are days when it tastes ok, so I think is me.  Do you filter your water?  I filter mine.  I purchased a great filter, paid about $100 for it, but it's good for 70,000 gallons!  You can't beat that, totally worth it, my water tastes better, at least as good as the water I used to purchase in bottles.

I have had days where I drink as much as 5 or 6 quarts of water, but usually I drink 3 - 4 quarts of water each day - plus a little coffee & a little bit (20 oz) of decaf tea. I absolutely must have lemon in my water! I was never a water drinker, but once my LLMD told me that I was to consider myself to be infected with all of the Tick-borne infections, I got serious about drinking water.

If you get your water 'from the city', it's best to assume that it is being treated with at least flouride. This is not a friend to Lymies. You really should at least have a good water filter - even if you can only afford to get a 'pitcher water filter'.

I really get quite frustrated with the taste/smell thing hanging around. I can hang on to a taste or smell all day long, making it hard for me to eat or drink.

Hello Simela and Traveler, I am lucky to have a good water filter system but, DUH! never thought of using the lemon to help cut the taste. I don't know about the fluoride here although I always assume that all water companies add it just for good measure. Bottled water has always tasted like plastic to me. Traveler, I don't have it as bad as you do with a smell or taste hanging around all day, but the one thing that can set me into a tailspin is diesel fumes....UGH! Back to fluoride, isn't it a by-product of the fertilizer industry? Seems to me I've read that somewhere. If it's true, I would think it would be a problem for everybody...they just don't know it. After your responses, I will make an effort to up my water intake. I thought I was doing ok, but certainly not 3 or 4 qts. per day. Thanks for your help.....

OOOHHHH!!! No kidding about the smell of a diesel!!! That's one of the worst culprits for me!!! It can make me nauseous in no time at all!!! Regular gas runs a close second for me.

It is my opinion that you are right about the flouride being a problem for everyone, as it is toxic at small amounts.

You could also make up herbal tea to drink - either as a hot or cold drink - to help with your fluid intake.

Fluoride is not removed with water filtration. Fluoride removal methods depend on water pH, which is constantly changing in municiple water supplies (varies seasonally, and depends on what other additives are in the water). Best thing to do is to organize a campaign in your area to demand fluoride be removed from the tap water. Or get a reverse osmosis water filter...or use distilled water. But be sure to filter the distilled water before you distill it - volatile organic compounds (VOC's) are not removed with distillation.

Got the lemons and already have a large pitcher of water fixed ready to drink. The herbal tea is a good idea so I'll work on that. GWB - I've thought about diabetes but have put it off getting it checked because I'm hoping it's just antibiotics and detox. I prefer denial to knowing!! PattiB, I envy you the well water. I live in coal country and most of the wells were put out of commission a long time ago by the coal longwalls. I may agree with you that it doesn't matter what I drink these days, it still tastes funny. I swear chemo is almost a walk in the park compared to this disease.... You're all a big help and a great comfort...thank you....

Make yourself as comfortable as possible. I was not big on teas, but now they are my best friend. I have fresh mint in the garden, along the hedges, that I never used before! Now I use some of it for my teas. Next year, I will grow a herb garden. It's easy and healthy and will help me to get better. I love rasberry tea and I used to make iced tea with it. Put a lemon in it and you can avoid water, that way. You can make it dilluted enough to cover the taste of water but not too strong. It has a great color, too. I never take sugar in my tea and coffee and I cut back on coffee, so to me that is not a big deal

i am always thirsty myself...i drink so much water at work then i live in the bathroom. and i know about being sensitive to smell but mine is different. I can smell stuff that other people cant so my sence is stronger and also i get a queasy stomache with rotten smells or bathroom smells.....lol.....i have to use the public bathroom at work and there was so many times i had to walk out cause i thought i was going to puke. i was never that bad b4...also if one of my customers smells (which is sad to say) i feel so sick to my stomach and almost gag. it doesnt happen in 2 weeks cause im not on abx rightnow. but when i was it was pretty bad....

I have the same problem, I can smell stuff that no one around me can. I had this problem for a couple of years, so maybe I've been infected for 2 years, which is very possible. We were in the woods and my 3 yrs old daugher started to walk up this steep heel. We followed her bec. we were afraid she'd fall. I was never so sensitive to smell or taste. Sometimes just the smell of food makes me feel I am about to throw up!
