Pregnant with Lyme Disease

I just found out that I am about 3.5 weeks pregnant.  I have been being treated for late stage lyme for 1.5 yrs now with daily zithromax 500mg and flagyl 750mg.  I live 8 hrs from my LLMD and don't know how I should go about going to a doc for the pregnancy and having to explain what I am taking and why I need to keep taking it.  Does anyone have experience with this?  I don't want to get my LLMD under scrutiny just because I am pregnant and I also want to have someone who is knowledgable in Lyme and it's real dangers as the person who is my pregnancy doctor.  Also, I don't have a general doc as I have recently moved to a new state. 

So, my questions are how do I find a good pregnancy doc in Milwaukee, WI who is familiar with lyme and does anyone have experience with taking antibiotics throughout pregnancy? (my LLMD said if I did become pregnant he would have me keep taking them.)

When I found out I was pregnant, my doc switched me to amoxicillin. I took amoxicillin throughout the pregnancy and for a year after. I really can't remember the dose and since my son is almost 18, it would be tough to find out. My regular ob/gyn followed the treatment plan my infectious disease doc recommended. Back then, no one had much experience with any of this so everyone was guessing on the best way to handle my pregnancy.

My son is fine.

I have been seeing a LLMD in the Milwaukee area for the past year. Contact me privately and I will give you his number. He is wonderful! i can't say enough good about him.

Dr. Joseph Burrascano's "Advanced Topics in Lyme Disease" discusses pregnancy & Lyme. It's down loadable in a pdf file when you 'google' it. He is a well respected LLMD & Researcher.

First off Congratulations!

You need to be on amoxicillin through the pregnancy. I have a 2 1/2 year old little girl and took amoxicillin. My ob did not know anything about lyme, but worked with my lyme dr in terms of my treatment and having the baby tested when she was born. They recommend testing the core blood. Your lyme dr. can request the specific testing for this. As for the pregnancy, I was horribly sick the entire time so not sure how much meds actually stayed in my system, but my daughter is beautiful and perfect and healthy. no lyme and I had late stage lyme for 10 years off and on prior to my getting pregnant.

I suggest finding an ob that you like and having your lyme dr. work with her to keep you on amoxicillin and again for the further testing. The good news is when I was pregnant I had no lyme symptoms. It's as if they go away. They started to come back when I stopped nursing, but never felt better than after my daughter was born.
