son given doxy for acne no problem

It's funny how doctors are willing to give out Rx for abx for Acne but not LD.  My son got a Rx for Doxy for 3 months of 100mg 2x/day.  The doctor said he could take it longer if needed, but he didn't want him on it any longer than necessary.  The doctor (not the same one) didn't even want to give me 3 weeks with a CDC positive WB and all kinds of symptoms.  Crazy.

I completely agree with your assessment!!! I read a while back that abx scripts were being written for months & months of abx for acne!!! Yet who do these nay sayers are taking too much abx for too long of a period of time????? A year on Mino for acne is no big deal, but a year on Mino for a brain infection from tick-borne illnesses is WAAAAAAYYY too long according to these same people!!!

I really don't get it - is acne a life threatening situation??? We already know that un & under-treated tick-borne infections are!!

I find that some docs do not hold back on abx, while others will give abx only if you are on your dead bed. A friend of ours was a surgeon/oncologist (he is retired now) and he never holded back on abx. He and other docs believe that cancer is caused by untreated infections. By the time patients came to see him, they were so sick, and I guess he saw first hand what lack of abx may lead to. They have conferences on this subject, but of course they won't tell us about it. After learning my lesson the hard way, NOW if I find a doc that won't give me abx when I know I really need it, I switch docs--no reason to get worse and play games.

My old PCP did not give me abx for a whole year. He thought my tests for lyme were false +. After a year, I got my records from him and went to another PCP and she put me on abx BASED ON THE SAME TESTS, NOT NEW ONES!

Simela, I've heard the same false positive thing too, the Rheumy said my positive WB was "a  false posiitive", but my negative RA factor was "a false negative."  The Neuro was going down the MS road eventhough I had no lesions on my MRI of the brain and spine.  She wouldn't even test me for lyme eventhough I had a ton of exposure.

I too noticed this, both of mine are on doxy and the other tetra for acne and have been for a long time. Also if I thought I'd benefit from another round of abx I'd probably order from Mexico.

My son was given 100mg/day of doxy for months because it's such a low dose for his acne. My mom was given 100mg/day of doxy for Lyme for only two weeks because it's a high dose. My mom would be a lot better off if she had acne!
