I was wondering if you have had any experiences with the good bye lyme site? Have you been there or know someone who has been there? Or even if there is some thing else you could tell me about this doc & his practice?

Thanks for the link to the article.  I'm in the process of getting treatment for Bartonella.  I purchased some books on Bartonella, and I feel that this bacteria is very scary. 

My current treatment is minocycline and zithromax.  Some of my symptoms has resolved, but some new ones have surfaced...I'm afraid I won't get rid of it.

I also read that if you have Bartonella it will hide the lyme and babesia...it said that when the Bartonella clears up Lyme and if you are infected with babesia symptoms will show up.

Thanks for this! I've been meaning to post a question about Bart. I do not have burning feet.

But a couple of times when I've posted something here, because of my symptoms. I have been asked if I have Bart. Last year I had a test for a couple of species.

It was by Quest and said 'Bartonella species antiboies (IGG, IGM) w/ reflext (ES) to Titer'.

Each 'screening' and IGG and IGM says 'Test not performed. Screening test negatvie. Titer not performed'.

Is this a good, valid test? I realize that it's not for Lyme, because it said the same for Lyme. (these were run AFTER I hada positive Lyme IgG.)

My newest LLMD accepted this as negative and did not re-test or consider Bart.

What do you think?

and PS:  I am taking large doses of Augmentin (4 month now) and hope to begin Mepron soon.  Would these be effective against Bart, do you think?

Sounds like the old saying "in layers....like peeling an onion".....

What are the names of the books about Bartonella? I'm pretty sure that's my foremost problem right now and have been doing some reading about it. Yes....scary doesn't begin to describe it......or any of this mess as far as I'm concerned.....

And, yes...CG, thanks for the posting. That's what got me started serious reading about it.....

Quest tests are not sufficient, they only test certain strains and thus will often turn up negative. A good doc will treat clinically.

Mepron is for Babesia, not Bartonella.

Thank you, lindaca. Even tho I'm not thrilled with your answer, I do appreciate it. Do you know if large doses of Augmentin can kick Bart?

The books by Dr. Schaller on Bartonella have lots of images of Bart rashes.  Bartonella is difficult to get a positive on the test.  There are multiple strains, but the labs only test for two.  So if you get a negative result it does not mean you are negative.  Like Lyme this is not cut and dry...you need a clinical diagonsis. 

Also from what I read if you have bart and it is not treated chances are your Lyme will not get better.  It is extremely important to take care of co-infections.  Additionally, I read that Bart may be difficult to get rid of.  When I go and see my doc this month I plan on asking him about some of the issue raised in Dr. Schaller's book.

I am also having a hard time with bartonella and also having a hard time finding any books on it.  There is minimal information online about it.  Dr. S's book is $100.00 and if I knew it was good, I would purchase it but I've bought so many books online which contain minimal information that I cannot part with that kind of money for a book site unseen.  I have had numerous rashes and am currently on roxithyroxim, bactrim and amantadine for bart along with numerous supplements.

I purchased my books from Amazon...you can get them cheaper is you buy them used.

No need to spend $100.00 that is way to much money.

I tried Bactrium for Bartonella, but my tongue began feeling like I burned it.  You have to be careful on that medication.  I can not take Bactrium at all.

Currently, I'm on minocycline, and zithromax...I see the doc next week and the next step is for me to start Rifampin.

I have sensitivities and need to ease my way into higher doses of medication.  I can not be zapped all at once.  My body can not handle it.

I know that the meds are helping me because some of my symptoms have cleared up...for instance, I no longer have the sweats.  On the other hand I have developed some new symptoms such as hand and feet pain.  Additionally, when I take the antibiotic; for example, on my zithromax days after taking my dose I begin to twitch in different muscles...it is crazy what these germs do to us. 

After reading up on Bartonella it is my understanding that you can have different looking rashes besides the ones that look like stretch marks.  Also if you have Bart it can mask the lyme and babesia..so as you clear up the Bart, if you have any of the other diseases they can begin to surface. 

If you have Bartonella it needs to be addressed and can not be ignored or you will not get better.
