Has anyone been on Sulfasaldine and Flagyl at the same time?

I have major colon issues, Ulcerated colitis maybe Chrons to be exact. My doc can't say if it's from Lyme's or not but I'm on Sulfasaldine for my UC and taking Flagyl for the Lyme's. Has anyone tried this combo and it helped their gut issues.

Yes, I took this combo, however was unable to stay on the sulfasalazine due to allergic rash (covered most of my body). But I did very well with the Flagyl, and they also had me on Prednisone. The reason they gave me the Flagyl was due to an amoebic parasite and a fistula (that I now believe was due to the parasite and not the Crohn's they thought I had...). I did not know I had Lyme at this time.

I would not be opposed to being on Flagyl again if my doctor prescribed it because I feel it did good things for me.

Hey Razz, I was given flagyl for diaomebia fragialis but never took it because it was when my lyme doc in seattle first discovered I had lyme and she said the flagyl would make me too sick at the time also because of my hep c liver thing. So you didn't have any herx reaction from flagyl? does anyone? I would love to get rid of that last parasite. My stomach completely chnged when I took the pharmacutical hookworm meds and my lungs and chest pain was gone after taking the ivermictin for strongylides.
is flagyl considered an antibiotic or antiparasitic or anti viral?
did you get rid of the parasite? could you feel the difference?

How much Flagly did you take a day and for how long? I have UC/Chrons just wondering and I hope it helps me out.

Yes, the medicatioin did get rid of the parasite, and I have never had the same symptoms again...no fistula ever again (2% of childhood cases of the parasite I had could present with fistula in addition to the more common symptoms of diarrhea and weight loss - I had all of these symptoms). No parasite test since then has shown the presence of any parasites.

If I remember right, I was on the medication for 6 months. I was also on Prednisone, which I believe is why I did not have lyme die-off symptoms (Prednisone suppresses the immune system and also decreases inflammation; herx reactions involve inflammation in addition to the need for the body to get rid of the toxins from "critter" die-off). That said, I was very, very ill during this time - I had lost more than 20 lbs. and was unable to eat much until the medications started working.

Flagyl is an antibiotic that has anti-parasitic action against a few parasites...it also is used to treat c. difficile (an infection that can occur from the use of other antibiotics). See http://www.medicinenet.com/metronidazole/article.htm for more info.

I was on flagyl for lyme last year and it made me soooo sick with my GI system.... I felt like all did was live in the bathroom. then the dr gave me something for the diareha and that helped but it really messed my belly off. so i went off of it ad didnt go back on meds for a few months. then had a flair up, so i went on different meds after that. Zithro and cefdinir and plaquenil... which i take one pill for a month with zithro and then the next month change to the other pill... i am on my 3rd month of treatment for 4 months of doing this... and my insurance ran out and dont have zithro anymore but plenty of the other 2 uggg..... so i am just taking the cef.
