Hi. I hope I'm doing this correctly. First time on this site, or any site. I have Lyme. Just diagnosed a few days ago. I work around horses and I have always had dogs. November 2010 is when I noticed a drop in body temp and very cold feet. Very weak, very fatigue. I slept for hours and hours for about one month. Question: Can your spouse get Lyme? I researched and, yes, they can. Thanks!

Welcome to our forum!!! I am very sorry to hear that you have Lyme Disease! I am however, glad that you found us!! I'm certain that you will find us to be a caring, helpful, understanding & supportive group!!

When do you believe you were infected? Are you set up to see a Lyme Specialist? Lyme Disease Specialists are called Lyme-literate Medical Docs (LLMD's). This will be important as most docs don't even know what the symptoms of Lyme & other tick-borne infections are, much less how to treat something so complex.

I used to work with horses as well, actually had started a career in training them - but my tick-borne infections had too much of a say so in my life to let me continue.

You mentioned that you have researched about giving a spouse LD - has this happened in your case? Researching is just what you should be doing right now!! We have a whole lot of really great info & helpful links for those who have just found out they or a loved one has LD & other tick-borne infections in the thread at the top of the forum titled, "New to Lyme?...Start here!"

Please forgive me - blush - there was more I wanted to say to welcome you, but I'm not feeling well today, so I will leave that up to our wonderful members!!

Traveler,  I cannot believe I figured out how to navigate this!   I thank God, truly, that this is available!  Thanks so much for hearing me out!   God Bless ya!     I am NOT stopping the horse work.  It is a program called Therapeutic Horsemanship for the Physically and Mentally challenged.  It's dear to me (no pun intended) because my son has paranoid schizophrenia and I have depression, bipolar, PTSD and anxiety.  I need this, I'll risk my chances, at least thus far.   A book from Border stated that spouses can get it.   I just received word today that my friend's niece's hubby got it also.  See, years ago, my understanding is that it was not an issue with spouses getting it.  Research has proven differently.  I used to work in the medical field and medicine is something I study all the time.  Doctors are wrong a lot!  I also have HSV II and this complicates things.  My body aches before I break out, so has it been the herpes II or Lymes?   What a mess!     The good and positive side; we know!    It's not in my head!!!!!!

Now, my friend said today that I shouldn't take the antibiotics because many docs have been sued due to the immune system being destroyed from excessive treatment of antibiotics.  I don't know what to do!  The IV implant can be painful I heard!  My friend's spouse had antibiotics and is no better.

Welcome to the forum. Glad you have gotten a diagnosis and can start getting treatment.

Antibiotics are like any really good tool, just a bit dangerous. Many people with lyme respond to antibiotic treatment. I have found them to be a life-saver. I am almost completely better at this point because of the treatment I have gotten from my lyme literate doctor. Many llmd's are not using the IV lines because of complications with the implants themselves. But some people only respond to the IV route.

As good as it is to have friends, it would probably be best if you found a good lyme literate doctor and took his or her advice. Everybody with this disease is different and needs a customized course of treatment.

Good information. I'll find out everything this Thursday. I like this new doctor. She is also is aware of the Herpes 2 I have; something that also affects the nerves.

Welcome to the forum HorseHelper! By the way, I love your username because I love horses and was raised with them. Thanks! Now I feel better about navigating this forum. I also just signed on with another Lyme forum.

I met with a former boss of mine when I was a med asst., her hubby has Lyme really badly. The coldness bothers him. I got the confirmations I needed through intense conversation with her today. I'm reading a book now; "Cure Unknown". I'm getting a lot of answers. Not everyone is the same. When someone says that you'll be ok with antibiotic treatment, that's not always the case. It comes back in many patients.

It has been known to be transfered sexually. I think my spouse is going to get tested just in case. Another girlfriend of mine has a niece who's spouse got it also. What a complicating illness.

Welcome, although I am sorry you are sick. A lyme literate dr, is a very good idea!!

Love that there are so many horse lovers around, We have 4 and they are loved. My sweet hubby has taken over the chores, but he loves them too so I'm lucky. Too bad we can't post pics here I'd love to see everybodies pets/

I was diagnosed in 1996 and hubby is fine. i wonder though if some people have like a genetic immunity and some of do not!! So hopefully

Love what I do with the horses; volunteering. If a horse gave me the tick, I'm not stopping what I'm doing. I'll risk my chances . At the request of my girlfriend, she feels I should give it up. Well, it's like what I need to do for me, and decreases depression.

If my husband had it, I don't believe he would be capable of working full time in a stressful job.

I filed disability 18 months ago. The attorney and I are waiting for the hearing date.

Spinal tap anyone? Is it needed? Curious. They're painful, had it when tested for MS years ago.
