I just watched the Dan Rather special on antibiotics and how in Norway they RARELY use them.

I got it on itunes. it is not a lyme story but it is a story of why abx don't work for too many because of over prescribing.


economics doesn't make it for pharmacutical companies to develop like it would for kidney, heart or pleasure drugs.


In Norway they don't use abx like we do.

I am gonna see now about lyme in abx.

AIDS , TB and antibiotic resistance is what they are saying is the major global health problems.

Here is a big part of out problem. I THINK. too many of us have had too much abx when younger or are eating it in our FOOD!! also if no pharmacutical company is even looking for an ABX that really works for al lyme and coinfections and NOT the ones we are using and have to take for months to years. obviously these are not the right abx. they need new ones. all this story about how sart the lyme bacteria is...is bull...we have noo one even trying to develop the right abx.?

I think that it is easy to fall into the trap of assuming western medicine is bad and alternative medicine is good. In reality, some alternative medicines are very dangerous, have been poorly tested and are often also mixed with a wide range of binders and chemicals (for very good reason). Alternative medicines are often bought off the internet and may not be what they are advertised as. In addition, there is little quality control legislation for herbal tablets.

One of the few alternative medicines which has been thoroughly tested to usual western standards is St Johns Wort. This had been proven to be very effective BUT they also discovered many dangerous interactions with other medicines. If you buy this you will find a long list of 'do's' and 'dont's' like you would with western medicine, side effects etc. Fantastic - you know what you're getting. Unfotunately many other alternative medicines will omit this info.

With regards to antibiotics, it is bacteria which can become resistant to antibiotics, not people. Resistance comes about when bacteria are exposed to antibiotics but do not all die. This generally occurs when people do not finish their dose, or through animals being given low regular doses of antibiotics when they don't need them. This is only a problem for other people if the bacteria are then spread from the original person (or animal) to others. You get resistance in bugs like TB, malaria and MRSA because these resistant bugs spread so easily through the population. Resistance forming in Lyme Disease as a whole seems unlikely, as it doesn't spread like this.

Over-use of antibiotics certainly was a major problem in western countries (still is in some), but is increasingly more so in developing world now where there are fewer controls to ensure antiobiotics aren't over-used. In fact, the reason it can be so hard to get proper treatment for Lymes is due to tight modern restrictions on antibiotic use in UK/US/Europe.

Sorry for a bit of a rant, but I think people sometimes forget that the vast majority of people owe their lives to some form of western medicine. Preventing plague, smallpox, TB, pneumonia,...

Deejavu I am in 100% agreement with you. I ran/run from abx like a madwoman...until I was so desperate and sick from the Lyme I was willing to try it. I did abx for 4 mo until my body basically let me know this was NOT going to fly...now I am back to the 'alternative' route...

I read so many heart wrenching stories of people suffering from Lyme and taking so many TOXIC drugs, IV's etc and all I can think of is its like cancer...if the disease doesn't kill you, the treatment will.

I really do not see many success stories posted about people who have been cured on abx alone. I have read many storied of people curing themselves with herbs, and Salt/Vit C of all things...

I do understand, though, how when you are feeling so awful you will do ANYTHING for the chance to feel better, and when you are that sick its hard to think clearly.

The other real joke about this country is we love a waiter or a hair stylist with an accent. Why do we think the germans or swiss are smarter than us. If Rau was an american doctor we would have him on quack watch too.

There is a handful of brilliant doctors on this lyme thing and when you see a naturopath prescribing abx you know this is a little beyond only natural remedies. Also, many of them had lyme and they took the abx.

And I was told "You will always have this. You won't get rid of it. But you have to get the infection down and keep it from completely taking over."

I was also told ."You will be on pain meds the rest of your life." This is because of the damage done over all these years.

Even the people who have been majorly helped by Hansa already did a load of abx. before they saw him and even his patients are still constantly taking his remedies and doing his detoxes. AND ARE ON PAIN MEDS.
We all need detox.

Too many doctors are not doing the entire blood work up to get entire picture for all coinfections.

Too many doctors are treating without even considering the IgG and IgM scenario.

Too many are not even checking ISACS panel for thick blood.

Too many are not doing the RIGHT stool test for parasite first.

Too many do not know how to even test a long term lyme patient.

Too many patients are not getting their entire household tested once they know they are positive.

Too many are keeping the same pets in their home that can so easily be bringing more ticks back in the house every day.

Too many of us have lost our homes and credit and jobs and relationships and sanity to this.

Dr. Rau"s video is very sweet but he is no way showing us any patients that have long term lyme. He should have had a few people telling us how they have been cured after 6 to 10 to 20 yrs.

I loved his video but have already done all thos things he talks about. and spent $25,000 to do it. Heavy metal detoxes is not going to kill the bacteria.

Rau also show this research that the states that show the most lyme have the worst water. He is actually saying that it is the water supply that makes Mass. the worst place.
what he doesn't get is that in his chart he shows NY as one of the lower infected stated compared to Mass. Ha that is the biggest JOKE. NY won't let anyone PROOVE they even have lyme. NY STATE is the biggest coverup state in the country. They control the StoneyBrook Lab and when Burriscano opened his mouth he was lucky he wasn't assassinated.

I think the major problem here is that there is no pharmacutical companies who are being commissioned by the government to come up with new antibiotics. this is what the Dan Rather video is saying. Pharmacutical companies don't see any money in producing antibiotics, the big money is in the new fibro pills or viagra or antidepressandt and the real biggie "pain" medications and the the medication to get you off the pain meds.

I think the government already has the antidote.

the real truth is no one has come up with the NEW antibiotic that is needed here for the majority of us.

I think the government has a vault of special antidotes that they are not releasing. They did they same thing with all the satellite technology and communications technology.

Just like when you go to google maps and you can see by satellite whose car is parked in your driveway. The US government has been able to tell you what color bikini you were wearing on the beach last week in the Hamptons sine the sixties.

everything I do, everything I try,every remedy, every book I read is out of sheer desperation. I am hopeful for all of us in what ever treatment they peruse.

It's a terrible situation for a lot us, being chronically ill, unable to work -- previously high-functioning...
I've been out of the game for 10 years. I've been treating Lyme for 3 full years (mostly oral abx's + Plaquenil) some progress, but I'm still often housebound. Being middle-aged now, and quite arthritic, makes it worse. Plus the low-grade fevers - not much fun at all! There are no clear answers regarding a long-term cure.

All of you have raised some very interesting information and insights. The possibility that the antibiotic cure is already "out there" piqued my curiosity, as we always have to consider following the money trail.

I used to post, but the reading, researching, and posting wore me out - what with having both physical and cognitive/brain fog issues.

Antibiotics, combine with a healthy lifestyle and detoxing, haven't cured me, but whenever I go off antibiotics, my general health deteriorates over a 4-6 week period, until I can barely tolerate my existence.

Wow Spaztick...I can see you have been at this a long time. And if you watched the Dan Rather special he was saying in the end that the drug companies are not even interested in developing new abx. there is no money in it.

they make more money on blood pressure and cholesterol and feel good brain and hormone drugs.

But this lyme thing is being looked at closer and in all different situations.
We have kids with the PANDAS that are very sick and major strep like stuff in the basal ganglia and finding out the whole family has lyme and we have burriscano and klinghart both looking very intensely at this XMRV. They even have now given it some new official virus name.

Has anyone seen the videos of the Whittmore Peterson Insitute and all their findings on this xmrv.
That is the big research center starter by Whittmore the mother of a girl with serious chronic fatigue.

Most of us with lyme have all the confections hhpv6, chlamidial phneumonia, bartonella..and on and on

and not to mention still look how many of us with lyme have not even tested with the right labs for the parasites that will really hold back anyone from getting well no matter how much abx they do.

Something is going to break loose here and I really believe it is within next 24 months.

yes the same story of the HOST being either weak or strong. We don't need bug killers ..we need power booster type stuff to make our immune systems stronger. I take from 20 to 40 mg of hydrocortisone a day.

My adrenals fried out years ago. I have never been right my whole life. I had my appendix out when I was 18 months old. Who knows how much abx they gave me and WHICH ones they gave me. My mother took me to the hospital and they discovered I had appendicitis so she leaves me there to get operated on and the next day they send me home instead because I had chicken pox and the didn't want to get the other kids infected.
They had to have dosed me like crazy with the abx.

Many of us were on abx when little and many of us have these A type personalities that we are leading heavy stressful "successful" lives. jiggling and juggling, dancing burning the candle at all ends but having a great time. We are strong people who are able to beat off anything with our minds and NOW this is the clincher with this lyme...... it attacks a different area of DNA or something that has to do with THE WILL and our connection to our SPIRIT. If you can read that post I just put up ??? I forgot what I posted it.."INTERESTING" or something like that. If you read what this doctor wrote I found it very interesting.

I am beginning to think they may have better results in europe if they are treating symptoms and NOT crazy blood work.

I think the blood work has us all looking in the wrong places and if they are gonna do blood work the DO blood work and not one test here and a month later one test there.

I think they should be doing a battery of testing on SUSPECTED lyme or NOT. Any one who has fibro/ arthritic/ lyme
symptoms should be testing everything across the board including now this xmrv thing.

you can't help anyone if you only use Igenex even. you have to know everything that is going on.

no one should be seeing a GP who is really chronic ill. They give referrals and write too much abx prescriptions and antidepressants scripts without any real investigation.

Also the Europeans do not abuse antibiotics as we do here so I think they have stronger immune systems to begin with.

First, Dr. Rau was not at the Marion Institute to show cured people.   He was there because the Marion Institute invited him to speak since he is a highly respected doctor, accent or no accent.  The people there wanted a different perspective on chronic lyme disease and that's what he gave.   Perhaps you should rewatch his video's.

Also, some people that I know who went to Hansa never took an antibiotic in their life.  That is a fact.  One person had lyme for over 30 years and never once took an antibiotic, yeah, not one, hard to believe right?  But very very true.

How can you say people who went to Hansa are still taking his remedies?  That is simply not true!  Have you talked to each and every person who followed Dr. J's protocol and asked them?  You didn't ask me and I stopped taking his botanicals years ago...  Do I continue to detox?  You bet!  Why? Because it's a very healthy thing to do in my book, lyme or no lyme.. 

Sorry, if someone told me I had to be on pain meds for the rest of my life, I would go see at least another 20 doctors.   But that's me.  A doctor can tell me whatever he/she wants but that does not mean I will believe it or do it..   I will go home, do my own research and probably find another doctor. 

When I was sick with lyme, I was in horrible pain but refused to take pain meds, again, that's me.  I rather find the cause of the pain then mask it with drugs..   I am thankful I know about detox baths and detox foot baths as well as infrared sauna's..  

Last but not least, I have not met anyone during all my years in the lyme world who became better and "stayed" better using antibiotics alone.  I do know people who did use antibiotics and then switched over to alternative medicine and then got better and stayed better.  

Just wanted to straighten some things out.  I wish you the best and hope you find the right road (with accents, LOL) for you to get better.
