Hi mfh!!
Welcome to our forum!!! I am really sorry to hear that you are infected!!! Although, I am glad you found us!! I'm sure you will find us to be a caring, helpful & understanding group!!!
From the research reading that I have done, my understanding is that Amox is commonly used for those women who are pregnant &/or nursing or any patient that cannot tolerate Doxy, but at higher dosages. According to Dr. Joseph Burrascano:1 gram (1,000 mgs) every 8 hours (basically 2 times a day) plus Probenecid (500mgs every 8 hrs as well). Doses up to 6 grams (6,000 mgs) daily are often needed.
Once you reach an appropriate amount of abx so that they are able to do their job, you will most likely experience what is known as a Jerrisch-Herxheimer reaction or a "Herx". This is from the toxins that are released as the bacteria die off.
You will notice an increase of symptoms, or an increased severity of symptoms or even new symptoms. In order to get relief, you will need to detox. We have a great post about
detoxing & what you need to get started in the "New to
Lyme?..." thread. It's quite possible that you have all you need to get started already in your house!! Dry skin brushing and some soak time in a tub will help you get through your treatment with less discomfort!
In order to help you find a LLMD (Lyme-literate medical doctor), it would be best if you could start a new thread asking about
a LLMD in your area. Be sure to list either the city you live in or one nearest to you.
Here are a few other options as well;
