I agree-- you're preaching to the choir.

The thing about testing, is that it seems to be used in some cases to prevent treatment or limit cases.
So I don't see testing as the panacea others do, as they only have limited usefulness, and often its better to not have one and treat on symptoms alone.

But.....a test (yet to developed) that IS 100% accurate will eliminate the excuse to not treat those patients who's doctors are unfamiliar or uneducated as to the presence of the disease based on symptoms alone.
Those like myself who have Lyme and test negative because the current tests are flawed, would-- without a doubt-- be treated for the disease. Just as a biopsy can undeniably reveal cancerous cells, so should a Lyme test undeniably show the presence of Lyme and/or coinfections.
But putting testing aside for a moment: GP's, PCP's Pediatricians, Internal Med. doctors, and even infectious disease doctors need to be better educated as to what the symptoms are for Lyme etc.
A person shouldn't have to finally walk straight into a wall and fall down (as I did, for example) in order to be diagnosed for a sneaky disease I'd had for over a year.
Lyme had me fooled for many months! All my weird symptoms seemed like they were attributed to something else. If I hadn't perservered and educated myself on Lyme and become my own health advocate, who knows how bad off I would be now.
What the real failure currently is (IMO), is LACK OF EDUCATION on the part of the medical community!
Being that Lyme is the great imitator, it's no wonder the disease is misdiagnosed.
A spot on accurate test would stop all the medical nonsense, denials, lack of treatment and patient suffering.
But in the meantime.....which could be a long time....we have to push for education. And I think that better education is happening, although it's too slow.... and unfortunately misinformation is still being believed and passed around.
This whole political aspect of Lyme is baffling to me. It reminds me of the conspiracy theory that we did not land on the moon-- and sadly the moon landing (Lyme/chronic Lyme) deniers seem to be in control!
I will applaud the day when a perfect test is available. It will shut them all up!
